After switching to Fuji system I was using Fuji prime lens dedicatedly, but after few months I feel to have a pro zoom lens. Sometimes I faced situation where I don’t want to change prime, and when you’re in travel and the shooting style is not pre-determined then it is really problem. For example, in some of my travel I only used XF 16mm f/1.4 lens. Its a great lens to take landscape and evening shoot for its aperture. But sometimes when I want to give priority a kind of portrait then its failed. Who want to switch lenses in busy moment.

So why I didn’t buy the XF 16–55mm f/2.8 at first time instead bought XF 16mm f/1.4 . The main reason, I was afraid of weight. As I used to use Canon 5D Mark III and EF 24–70 f/2.8 II lens long time, I knew how much trouble I faced during travel to carry that setup. In Fuji system, the XF 18–55 f/2.8–4.0 also a nice intermediate lens, but if you take some portraiture shot and compare it with the pro lens you can differentiate the quality. So I was not happy on that lens. Also in my X-T2 camera, I found the XF 18–55 f/2.8–40 is kind of slower compare to prime lens.

After lots of thinking and using some prime lens, I decided lets try the XF 16–55mm f/2.8 pro zoom lens. Yes, its bigger than others, but in my travel I don’t need to carry other lens which is a big plus. And the whole day I can carry my X-T2 and XF 16–55mm f/2.8 on my shoulder without any pain. So I am very happy using this lens. Overall I love this lens. I don’t regret to use prime lens instead of my pro zoom. I also have 2 prime lenses, when I want to travel really light I carry my X-T20 and XF 23mm f/2.0 lens. And when I took portraiture I use my X-T20 with XF 56mm f/1.2. Normally when I go in long travel, I carry both of my camera one with me, and one stayed in my main luggage. Normally in hotel where I stay, sometimes I took specific portraiture shot and then I use X-T20 with XF 56mm f/1.2. But in most situation my X-T2 with XF 16–55mm f/2.8 solved all kinds of situation.

So the weights:

  • Fujifilm X-T2 + XF 16mm f/1.4 = 882g [ I was used it mainly ]
  • Fujifilm X-T2 + XF 16–55mm f/2.8 = 1162g [ Now this is my main setup, which is 280g heavier than my prime setup ]

I sold my XF 16mm f/1.4 as I no longer will be using that lens, though that was a super lens.

So currently I have:

  • Fujifilm X-T2
  • Fujifilm X-T20
  • Fujifilm XF 16–55mm f/2.8
  • Fujifilm XF 35mm f/2.0
  • Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2
