  1. My Goal

The goal that I wanted to achieve for so long was to learn German language. It is mainly spoken in Central Europe. It is the most widely spoken and official language in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium and in some other countries as well. German is the third most commonly spoken foreign language in the European Union after English and French.

2. My reason for learning this language

Bavaria is known for it’s castles and beauty!
It’s like heaven on Earth!

My reason for learning German language is that I have great interest in it. I find it very fascinating because English and German are sister languages. Moreover German is the language of writers and thinkers. I am very much attracted towards its beauty. In addition to this, I am keenly interested to pursue my further studies at Germany as most of my senior fellows and teachers had chosen Germany for studying probably because the education is free of cost and the research work being conducted out there is mind-blowing! This is also another reason for learning German language.

3. Challenges

In the past I used to consider it very difficult language and tried to learn it but couldn’t do so. But by doing this task, I didn’t face any challenge except that at some point my mind got fully saturated. When I started learning new words and phrases, they started mingling in my head but I knew that I have to learn so I did it.

4. Three initial tasks

The three initial and basic tasks that I identified were:

  1. To improve my listening ability
  2. To enhance my speaking skills
  3. Take out time to develop my reading habits on daily basis

These factors really helped me in learning a lot of new words and phrases.

I started watching videos to learn German online. Watched several videos on YouTube as well where they taught the language from simple words, then phrases to long sentences.

5. My experience

My learning experience was quite good. I am always willing to try something new and different in order to learn and grow but most of the times we couldn’t try such things because we consider them as secondary things and not willing to give enough time. Most of the time, we lose our interest and got distracted from our goals. I believe that every skill is gained, enhanced and polished through practice and hard work.

6. My learning

My learning from this experience is that we should be dedicated to our goal. Once we have thought of achieving a certain goal, we should stick to it and try to achieve it through our determination, concentration and perseverance. I have learned a lot of new words like:

Yes — Ja

No — Nein

Please — Bitte

Thank you — Danke

Excuse me — Verzenihung

Hello — Guten Tag

What is that? — Was ist das?

Where? — Wo?

Do you speak English? — Sprechen Sie Englisch

7. Next Steps

My next steps are to make a practice of learning in my daily routine. Try to learn new things and gain a better understanding of them and never ever quit to try different things just because of the fear of failure.

“ You don’t lose! Either you win or you learn. No other option.”
