No, I don’t think so.
You are blaming the victims for initiating the crime. Who and what created this climate of fear? What about the rights to enjoy a normal life of those killed or maimed by terror? Consider whether failing to properly search inappropriately dressed people in the past has been used to advantage to perpetrate terror? It has.
When I visit other countries with different customs, when I lived in other countries with customs other than my own. I adapted my dress and customs to fit that country and that was as expected. Why is it that the West is expected to adapt its customs and dress codes to fit those cultures that it is rescuing people from? This is insidious, wrong-headed rule by the minority.
Perhaps your post is well intentioned but this is not discrimination. This is not about gender. This is not about culture. This is about real deaths, a consistent pattern of terror and a religious war.
The reason that there are dead innocents in Nice, Paris, London, New York, etc. has a lot to do with the West attempting “to do something” about the refugee crisis. Perhaps instead of blaming the West for not fixing the insanity that is going on in several of these countries one should look to the leaders of those countries to take responsibility for filling the world with refugees and death. Perhaps one should question what is consistent about these states and why do they produce such unhappiness?
Maybe instead of blaming those countries that have already accepted 100’s of thousands of refuges for not taking more and for not changing to adapt to other cultures, one should look to the root causes of the 100’s of thousands of refuges, be glad that those that were accepted have a home and happily accept that being alive and free under western culture beats being dead or incarcerated but keeping to the tenets of Islam.
Terror is a reality, the fact that it is often committed by members of a certain faith is not random but a statistical reality. Ignoring someone: who is attired in a contextually out of place fashion, who is wearing an outfit of concealment, who is in a location that offers a prime opportunity for a terror strike that would be consistent with the other venues and methodologies, would be inexcusable by the police and the hue and cry would be huge if people were killed. Moving her to more private location for a respectful search could have cost them their lives. Similar to moving a harmless looking gift or children’s toy has cost the lives of others.
Yes, you were told correctly. These are not gender issues, these are societal issues. I realize that this response will not be fashionable or acceptable to most and my liberal voting card will be revoked but blast away. It is regrettable that police are forced to go to such extremes in our countries but this is the new normal and we are already making sacrifices, suffering losses of freedom. I am afraid women in burqa’s will have to make some adjustments as well.
