Totally. As an organizer for meetups that help promote visibility of marginalized genders in tech, I get mixed feedback as well.
I see my work prioritizing marginalized genders as an attempt to provide more equal opportunity in society.
As a Chinese daughter, I know too well the old-fashioned preference for male gender over others. I have guy cousins who are given tutors 7 days a week but their sisters don’t get any.
I have another guy cousin who is given the opportunity to stay back after school to do extracurricular but their elder sister siblings have to go back home to do the chores.
Little by little, these preferences add up, until even the girls believe they’re not as capable or worthy of equal support.
Thank you for your grassroots work to help make the playing field more equal in society.
