Weather

Hello and welcome again to our Swedish learning corner. Today’s meet-up is about weather and connected vocabulary and phrases. Andra sida är ni klara? Kom igen!

Let’s start with basic vocabulary connected with weather.

When it comes to weather and asking a question “How is the weather?” you can always use “Vad är det för väder ute?” or (if you want to sound like a real Swede) you can use the shorter version”Hur är vädret?”. Here come the possible answers:

DET ÄR SOLIGT UTE
IT IS SUNNY
DET ÄR HALVKLART UTE
IT IS PARTLY CLOUDY
DET ÄR MOLNIGT UTE
IT IS CLOUDY
DET ÄR DIMMIGT UTE
IT IS FOGGY
DET REGNAR UTE
IT RAINS
DET SNÖAR UTE
IT SNOWS
DET ÄR BLÅSIGT UTE
IT IS WINDY

It can be very windy in Sweden thereby the following expressions may come in handy: “Oj, vad det blåser idag!” which would be something like oh, there is a strong wind today” or “vad blåsigt är det idag” that could be translated as “What a windy day!”.

When it is really hot, people in Sweden would say “det är svinvarmt ute”, while “svin” means “swine”.

Let’s call it a day. We have gone through the basic vocabulary and phrases dealing with weather. Stay tuned and follow MySwedish and feel free to send me a message.
