On empathy, and the turning away

On Empathy
First, let me experience sickness so that I can appreciate a healthy body.
Then, let me know loneliness so that my soul may be lifted by the touch of another.
Let me be poor so I know that abundance is only an internal reality.
Let me wander, for however long, to prepare my mind and soul to be earnest.
Let me be lazy so I can feel the power of a committed and diligent pace.
And above all, in times of prosperity, let me live among the downtrodden, so that I may experience first hand God’s grace.
As I am them, and they are I.
