The Fastest Way to Accomplish any Big Goal

As a person who suffers massively from brain fog or unfocused thinking (remedy equals juicing and salads), I often find it hard to get things done. Especially big goals. Having applied some self analysis I discovered a solution.

Tiny Goals

The solution is tiny goals. So, for example, I wake up in the morning and I don’t really feel like getting up. Next I ask myself the question,

‘What’s the next tiny goal?’

and so follows something like the following process :

Tiny goal 1. I move my arm out. Tiny goal 2. I turn over. Tiny goal 3. I move the blankets. By now momentum has kicked in and the rest of the act of ‘Getting out of bed’ accomplishes itself, or if not, I simply continue with the tiny goals until it does.

The tiny goal can range from breathing to the next simple action to take. If I need to write some of my essay for college I simply say:

‘ Can I leave my laptop open here after I finish typing?’

‘Can I move my leg in the first action towards getting my copy?’

The tiny goals continue, I commit to doing 5 seconds of the essay. Once I’ve started, the hardest part is over and my essay ends up getting done a few days early.

Easiest way to overcome procrastination

The reason why I’ve found that tiny goals are so useful is because when my mind anticipates having to do a big goal, resistance pops up. This feeling of slight discomfort. The next thing the mind does to avoid this discomfort is find a way not to face it. So suddenly I’ll find myself saying:

‘I’ll do it tomorrow’.

or

‘I’ll just do this other thing first’.

Some people say:

‘You have to fight the resistance and get on with it, don’t be lazy.’

I don’t think it works that way, not for me anyhow.

Solution

My solution is tiny goals. The key is to bring the goal down to the level you’re at so that the resistance part of the mind doesn’t get triggered. Once you have found your way in, go from there. You’ll find after a few tiny goals the rest accomplishes itself.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy

If ever you really want to do something but can’t find a way in, make a goal towards your objective so small that you cant resist :). Tiny goals really are the fastest way to accomplish any big dream. :)
