I like the fact that you noticed how, as a child, you saw no problem with being quiet and not as open as other kids. I, too, used to be a quiet kid, preferring to form few, but deep, relationships over engaging in what I perceived to be superficial group clamor.
However, the feeling of inadequacy that creeped in with time reflected on my capacity to be creative, to write and to express opinions, particularly for fear of people’s reactions and what you call ‘perpetual theater of human interaction’ that I indulged as an overthinker. Especially on social media.

I’ve decided that challenging myself is required to maintain the feeling of independence, and so I began to write. It is hard to navigate the space between being an independent individual and a social being. We have to stay true to ourselves and yet find ways to express that self within the confines of our society. Not all those confines are necessarily bad, but as overthinking beings, we are likely to censor things that need or even should not be censored.

Thank you for the lovely post! It really brings forward the issues that come from being our own people in the beautiful but tricky beehive of humanity.
