The Odyssey Cinema, St Albans

Which are the most popular films you have shown?

The most popular films tend to be those that have picked up several nominations throughout Oscar season. ‘La La Land’ and ‘Manchester by the Sea’ have been especially popular over the last few months, and both went on to win several awards. We also love to show classic films such as ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ and ‘The Godfather’.

What is your favourite film?

My favourite film is ‘True Romance’, directed by Tony Scott and written by Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary. To me it is the perfect amalgamation of genres, with romance, gangsters and police drama all merging together in a way that only a Tarantino-influenced film could pull off. We were lucky enough to show it here as our ‘alternative’ Valentine’s Day film last year, seeing it on the big screen was fantastic!

What might people not know about the Odyssey?

A common misconception is that we do not show new releases. We always show new films within a month of their release date unless they have had particularly bad reviews. Also, ticket prices at The Odyssey Cinema are similar to most cinema chains, with the added benefit of having two fully licensed bars that stay open throughout the performance. We have big comfy seats around tables as well as sofas for two and standard row seating.

Anything exciting coming up you can tell us about?

We have recently introduced screenings with subtitles on the first two Thursdays of each month for those who are hard of hearing and plan to introduce an evening showing from April onward.

Would you like to give a shout out to another local business who you think is doing a great job?

We love The 3 Brewers! We have been stocking their ‘classic’ and ‘golden’ ales for a while and our customers and staff all love it. It’s brilliant to have such great beer brewed locally, and we’ve developed a great relationship with all the guys involved. We would also like to give a huge shout out to our neighbours The Great Northern who have taken a notoriously dodgy pub and turned it into a beautifully decorated and well-stocked local that we can all be proud of. We would strongly recommend checking out their yummy Sunday lunches!
