The silly season: What’s the use of Makona?

The silly season is over, which means it’s also time for a new Makona post. Despite the fact that two-thirds of the entire staff had a long holiday in the months of July and August, things happened.

First, we had some good talks with other developers, blockchain enthusiastics and entrepreneurs. Don’t worry, we didn’t fall for the so-called partnerships, but actual had real conversations about the use of Makona. As you probably know, Niels wrote a story about our stack, let’s check the possible use cases.

But why? Because…

During the hot Dutch days, I was asked the question: “Michiel, that decentrjibbajabba for good causes; can I also use that for myself?”

The words were taken out of my mouth ;-) If Niels, Jaap and I have learned something, scalability is important for adoption. For now Makona focuses primarily on the charity sector, but there are many more use cases that our technology can be grafted on.

Sports clubs and associations

Schwalbe!

A treasurer who enriched himself instead of —just to give some examples — make sure the locker rooms have a new coat of paint, keep the sports field in order or simply do what the members ask for. It’s quite common.

Some food for a thought: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Corporates

Fraud is not an isolated event: what happens in the ‘small’ can also take place in the big picture. Like the one man-band, huge companies also suffer from money flows that are not easy to follow: there is a reason parties such as KPMG and PWC dive into blockchain to support their own findings.

Perhaps it’s cryptokitties (a digital game where cats are exchanged, bought and sold) sounds like a bad joke, but ultimately (almost) any form of ownership with Makona can be sent from person A to person B. Not only digital cats, but Magic-cards, transport tickets (read more about smart contracts here) and shoes.

Real sneaker freaks want to be sure that their patties are ‘the real ones’. Link RFID-tags to personalized ID’s on the Makona platform, and you can track all information stored on the RFID-tag. Of course this is not only interesting for the sneaker freak, but also for the manufacturer.

In practice

Above examples are use cases that Makona keeps in mind when structuring our tech stack. As said before we’re in talks with parties who like work with us for asset management. How Makona can add technical value you can read here and in the next (more in depth) blog from Niels.

Regards, Michiel
