I’m 30 years old, I used to work as an IT Project Manager, however, quit 1 week before the war started. I live, well used to live, in Kharkiv — the biggest city of Eastern Ukraine, which is situated near the Russian border. Today is day 7 of the conflict, however, today's article is about day 2, which is Friday 25 February. I will create the article for each day. Each article will contain information about my experience and information on what happened in the country during that day.

We woke up at the sub-urbs of Kremenchug city in central Ukraine. Yesterday we escaped from Kharkiv, but there was little understanding on what to do next. 7 cars were parked near the tiny house we spent this night. Three other cars with our friends came in later today. Hosts of the house were expecting two other cars by the evening, so we need to figure out where to spend the other night, cause we can not use the hospitality of these lovely people anymore.

We spend the time before noon calling hosts from western Ukraine to rent some kind of a house, so we can live and work there. Obviously, tonnes of people all over Ukraine were doing the same, so no luck to finding shelter at this point.

Meanwhile, I was calling Kharkiv and heard some rather controversial news. Once were said that people from my neighborhood spent night in basements and in the morning there were parts of bombs on the streets as well as dead corps. Others were saying that there is everything pretty much OK and only some non-residential buildings damaged. Then I see this 50 meters from my home and get that leaving was the best decision I made so far.

Once from our party started looking for houses nearby since we could not find shelter in western Ukraine— no luck as well. That's how time till noon passed. The house is overcrowded, we do not know where to go, but still really happy to be here among our friends.

We get a call that we can rent a 3 bedroom house in Western Ukraine at the price we can afford. Some people canceled the reservation, so we were lucky enough to get the offer. This was enough for people from our car, there were 4 of us. We decided to leave right away. So we say goodbye to our friends and hit the road to reach out the next city by the curfew.

Family who host us decided to stay, 3 other cars were looking for a house to stay in the neighborhood (Kremenchug sub-urbs), 2 other cars left to the small city in central Ukraine, cause they had relatives to shelter them.

We get to the city of Kropivnitsky by the evening, I fuel up my car with low-quality gasoline cause it was the only kind left on the gas station. In the end of day we were in pretty good shape — full tank, we are in central Ukraine, we have a place to go.

The friend of mine left the city way behind us, but he was driving all night long even though there were information about road closures. He was in Kropivnitsky this morning, his aunt host him. I asked my friend for shelter for this night, so he talked to his aunt and the family let us in for the night.

We had our first hot meal in 2 days that night, which was amazing. The house we are in was quite small so we had to sleep on the floor. This was good enough even though my friend's dog tried hard to still my place to sleep.

Friend whose aunt hosted us escaped Kharkiv with his gf, mom, cat and dog. While we were having dinner another house owner from western Ukraine called me and said that her family could shelter us. This family has a 5 bedroom house so we can take my friend and his family with us. They accepted us cause we rented the house couple of years ago and they knew us. So I asked her for shelter and we had a new destination to go. I was thinking to provide this house to the ones who left with childer in Kremenchug — they refused to go. We also had an issue with the first house, cause it was pre-paid. We decided to keep the pre-paid house so our other friends can use it.

Now we had certainty on where to go. So the plan is to move to the west. 2 cars. 7 people. The dog and the cat.
