Faris, I love the thoughts on the paradox that is influencer marketing.
I agree that buying influence negates its influence in the subconscious way, but a big way that fans support the content creators they consume is by taking the recommendations from them.
What I mean is that we outright know that a content creator is making money off of a recommendation, but we still buy the product because we know if we buy that product, in this world of free content, then the content creator can make more content for us.
So as long as the influencer keeps their audience happy they can get away with as many ads as they want.
Influencer marketing will be the next big advertising spot. No question.
However, I’m sure you’ll agree that the real “influence” and future of promotion from these content creators comes from genuine word of mouth and excitement about a new product.
