What product to build?

So here’s the scenario: you’re quite capable at computer science, you think you understand how the internet works, and you’d like to start building a product.

Where do you start? Two ways to approach it

  • build something that solves your problem
  • build something that solves someone elses problem

The former is the path that I believe a majority of consumer tech entrepreneurs would take. Solve a problem that’s near and dear to the heart. It’s a pain point that the entrepreneur can relate to.

The latter path involves looking at things from another person’s lens, and be able to visualize that person’s frustrations.

I believe both methods are equally powerful, with an equal chance of success.

The turning point however, is when the product built starts to solve MANY people’s problems. Getting to this turning point requires a lot of experimentation and iteration.
