If Prison Is A Place People You Love Go
Dominique Matti

This is really powerful writing, on a subject that is so often forgotten or wilfully censored. Of course there are reasons why that person that you love has ended up in prison, but it does not change two things; you love them, and their rehabilitation depends on the state viewing incarceration as a transformative experience of punishment and evolution, rather than another way in which it can subjugate the marginalised.

I have an acquaintance or two that have done time, no one talks about it really, but they are not “bad people” they just made some bad choices in the heat of a moment or two and then they had to be held up as examples … There are rarely people that can be defined as one narrow thing, as bad people.
