Why is narrative such a difficult concept for young photographers to master?

My daughters incessant need for selfies kinda sums up most of the youth in today’s society. As a photographer who’s been shooting for 3 decades I have to worry more about people’s expectations when it comes to portraitures, hence I much prefer to shoot things- things don’t argue back or try to tell me how to do my job. Shooting things gives me total creative control to tell my narrative the way I want.
