  1. Freestyle (also known as front crawl): Freestyle is the fastest and most popular swimming technique used in competitions. It involves alternating arm strokes and kicking, with the swimmer breathing to the side while turning their head out of the water.
  2. Breaststroke: Breaststroke is a slower but more efficient swimming technique that involves a frog-like kicking motion and a simultaneous arm stroke. Swimmers glide between each stroke, allowing them to conserve energy.
  3. Backstroke: Backstroke is similar to freestyle, but the swimmer swims on their back, using an alternating arm stroke and kicking motion. The swimmer breathes by rotating their head to one side.
  4. Butterfly: Butterfly is a fast and powerful swimming technique that involves simultaneous arm strokes and a dolphin-like kicking motion. The swimmer breathes by lifting their head out of the water during the arm recovery phase.
  5. Individual Medley (IM): IM is a combination of all four swimming techniques (freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly) in a specific order. The order varies depending on the race distance, but typically starts with butterfly, followed by backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle.

It’s worth noting that there are many variations and nuances to each swimming technique, and swimmers may have different preferences or strengths depending on their body type and experience level. It’s always a good idea to work with a qualified swimming coach or instructor to learn and refine your swimming techniques.
