Organic meat, is it morally correct?

A recent trend has shown that many people who do consume a meat-rich diet have decided to start purchasing a more expensive, organic meat, but this begs the question — is organic meat in fact healthier and better for the animals?
Organic meat refers to the poultry, cattle, and pig that meet certain criteria demanded by the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA). Some of these key requirements include:
· The restriction of antibiotics or added growth hormones,
· Must be fed organic feed,
· Must be be raised organically on organic land,
· Must have outdoor access.
Despite all of the strict criteria provided by the USDA and level of compliance by Organic industry — the likelihood of organic meat containing bacterial contamination occurs at about the same rate as conventional meat. The risk for isolating bacteria resistant to multiple antibiotics is merely 33 percent higher in conventional than in organic pork and chicken. This means that the organic meat you consume, will most likely contain similar amounts of bacteria.
There seems to be a general misconception that consuming organic meat will will save you from the negative health impacts that meat contains. Within minutes of consuming meat, the bacteria within the meat, is released into the body. The bacteria triggers a burst of inflammation and leads to the stiffening or paralyzing of the arteries. Furthermore, a meat based diet has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, and even some cancers. In addition, animal products — regardless of being, organic or conventional, can increase the risk of contracting many diseases.

In regard to the human body, the human liver naturally produces all the cholesterol our body needs; we do not need extra sources. Meat contains significant levels of cholesterol, fat, and saturated fat. When you consume meat, you are increasing all of these components in your body. It is worth noting that saturated fat stimulates the liver to increase the amount of cholesterol in the body; fat is in every meat and is only avoided through not consuming it.
According to the PCRM (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine), numerous studies, such as the one conducted at the Western Electric Co. near Chicago, have shown that the more cholesterol you ingest, the higher your risk of artery blockages, regardless of your blood cholesterol level.
Not only are there negative impacts to a meat based diet but not all organic farms adhere to the rules. Unfortunately, there can be some misconceptions where many people believe that organic cows, pigs, and chickens get to roam freely and live out their lives on an open, beautiful green field — this is not true for some. These animals do not “live- out” their lives on farms because they are killed as soon as they are deemed “‘ready”’ to become meat. The regulations for organic meat do not even specify how much time is required for animals to roam free. In March 2015, an organic egg farm that supplies to ‘“Deutsche Frühstücksei GmbH’”, Germany’s largest egg producer’s and one of Europe’s biggest egg producers was exposed for mistreating animals. The footage showed over ten thousand chickens closely crowded together in filthy conditions. Many other organic companies in different countries have been exposed for similar levels of misconduct.

Organic farms do not only raise the question of whether the animals get to roam free or not. Many people are not aware that without antibiotics, animals who get infections are not treated. Animals also endure cruel mutilations such as debeaking, dehorning, and castration without any painkillers. This causes chronic pain to the animals. Animals raised on organic farms are also slaughtered the same way as animals in factory farms. Organic farming does not mean ethical treatment towards animals.
Based on the following information provided above, organic meat cannot be justified as more healthier because of meat itself containing negative health impacts. It is also not a morally correct practice due to the mutilations animals must go through and certain industries not holding the appropriate standard organic farms claim to follow.
