YOUR MIND, YOUR THOUGHTS, YOUR KEY TO A LIMITLESS LIFE

One thing that is certain, it is that you have got to mind your mind. Your mind is too important to be left unattended. It is called mind management. The majority of people are found wanting in this area. And therefore they allow anything and everything that is happening in the external environment to dictate the state of their internal affairs, which in turn shapes the results that they produce, and also the quality of their life. George Benard Shaw once said, “Only two percent of the people think; three percent of the people think they think; and ninety-five percent of the people would rather die than think.” In other words, out of the entire world population, 95% live according to the dictates of what they see, what they hear, their present and past experiences, as well as the experiences of others. Thomas Edison, the greatest American Scientist, inventor and businessman also confirmed this observation. “Five percent of the people think; ten percent of the people think they think; and the other eighty-five percent would rather die than think.” Evidently, Thomas Edison was one individual who used his mind quite extensively. For he held well over one thousand patents in the United Kingdom, France and Germany, and amongst his numerous inventions that revolutionised the lives of man are the phonograph, the motion picture camera and the light bulb.

Your mind is where everything happens. It is the master key to living the life you desire. It is the key to unlocking the limitless life — the life of plenty and prosperity. And given that only 5% of the population thinks, it is no wonder, then, that 5% of the population rules over the 95% of the mass of humanity, and makes all the 97% of all the wealth that is ever accumulated here on earth, while 97% of the global population shares only 3% of all the wealth that is ever accumulated here on earth. Of course amongst the 97% that earns only 3% of the global wealth — that is where you find those who will insist that money is not all that is important or that it will not buy happiness. Such folks, I think should be forgiven for their naivety. First of all, they belong to the class that either “thinks they think or would rather die than think”. And secondly, their words clearly demonstrate that they have never put money to test and proved its inability to live up to its promises. Nonetheless, I also think that they should not be forgiven for misinforming their fellow comrades since poverty itself is not much of a valuable form of tender, especially of happiness, peace, freedom and other beautiful memories such as are to be accumulated here on earth. That should be quite clear to this lot by now — but unfortunately it takes some thinking to work it out.

Thinking or using your mind to process information is what produces thoughts. What are thoughts, then? They are defined as “pictures of the mind with constructive or destructive ability”. In other words, these are pictures that you create in your mind that are filled with creative power of your choice. As the Bible teaches, teaches “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he”. That is to say, the outward life that you live is a full expression of the contents and processes of your mind. And therefore the quality of your life is the exact quality of your thoughts. Your thoughts determine who you are — the home you live, the car you drive, how much money you make, how much wealth you accumulate, how much joy you experience and guess what, they even govern the people that you meet. I guess what it means in simple terms is that you only need to look around you to find out the quality of your thoughts.

Actually, when you reflect on the above statement, you will discover that it is no rocket science to understand why this is so. The money that you make is clearly connected to the work of your mind. For example the guy who digs trenches or some such labour that requires little or no thinking, is paid way less than the one who designs the nature and purpose of that same trench or such similar labour. And if you continue to follow the lives of these two fellows, you will find that the one who does not use his mind accumulates little to no wealth, while the one who uses his mind accumulates substantial amounts of wealth. It is indeed true that even the kind of people that are attracted to the two are different. Actually, it is a fact that there are certain people who even while you live in this same earth, you will never meet with or speak with unless you use your mind in a certain way or control certain quantities of wealth — which can only happen when you use your mind. Such people as Presidents, (either of nations or private and public institutions), royalty (Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses) as well some such dignitaries, there are certain attainments of the mind that can only position you for meeting, speaking, or dining with them.

Self made Billionare Richard Brandson with President Barack Obama, his mind made him billions so he could rub shoulders with giants. What has yours done for you?

The Mind is more like your operational centre, with you as the Chief of Operations. What a title. No more can you move around claiming that you have no “job”. Jim Rohn said “You don’t get paid by the hour. You get paid for the value you bring to the hour” If you ever catch yourself even thinking like one unemployed, then you most certainly have abdicated the one and most important of your occupations — thinking. Otherwise you are no different from that employee who once he/she have signed the employment contract can no longer find reason for being in that employment. Instead they will spend all their time doing all else except mind their job.

I remember hearing this kind of information for the first time ever in my life. The speaker stated unequivocally — that no matter the state of your life at that particular point, regardless of whether you like your life or you don’t, “you simply are the reflection of your thinking”. To put it in a much more explicit way, “the character of the life that you live is a manifestation of the inner workings of your mind” (Pastor Chris Oyakhilome). I must confess that, for sure when I first heard it, my immediate reaction was not so dignified, to say the least. I literally adjusted my seating position, not because of the discomfort of the seat, but from raw indignation. My reaction was that of vehement protest to what I considered to be an onslaught on my already tormented life. I thought, “Dear Lord Jesus, this cannot be true”. I couldn’t understand how I could be “blamed” for all the lack, pain and suffering that I was enduring in my daily life. It didn’t sound fair or correct at all. But in spite of all my protest, the speaker didn’t change his assertion. So I determined that day to search for and to learn all that I needed to know concerning this “allegation”. Per chance there was an element of truth in it.

Soon enough I had my eyes opened. As I searched one scholar after another, I found out that — There is a consensus amongst them, that — indeed, Man, Any man for that matter, whosoever that Man may be. In fact, every Man, from any part of the earth, they say. A Man of any race colour or creed — is capable of thinking themselves into a life that they desire. Man, it is said, can think himself into a life of abundance or lack, sickness or health, misery or joy, greatness or obscurity. In fact, scholars do agree that the options for man’s thinking capabilities are infinite, limited only by his “thought”. Such is the universality of the innate power of Man’s thought which, if tapped into, can enable any man (whosoever that may be) to do and to become whatsoever he purposes. Actually, as I reflected on this revelation, it led me to recollect some old folktales such as the one that says “life is what you make it”. I had heard it all my life, but I had never quite known what it meant. But now, it was all making sense. Our mind is the secret key that we need to control and unlock the kind of life that we choose to “make”. The thoughts that we hold in our minds — the quality and character of such thoughts — they are our raw material for creating the life that we desire. In order to have the life that we desire, it is of absolute importance to master the value of one’s mind for with it one can transform their lives from rags to riches while its neglect can sure mean a permanent residence in the rags. The mind is an effective tool for dealing with all life’s challenges.

Now, perhaps you are still wondering, why then if the key is in the mind, (and we all presumably, have the mind), why then it is that there are some individuals amongst us and not all of us who are able to create for themselves a life of abundance in which they are able to enjoy excess of everything and anything — from joy, love peace, friendships, health, money and all manner of prosperity, that can only remain but a vague imagination for others, who have to endure a life of chronic pain, poverty, hopelessness, lack and want even of the simplest and most basic necessities of life?” We are living in a time when the World is facing some of the most difficult times ever, particularly our part of the world. Many are seeing themselves as being without hope but rather being at the mercy of life’s circumstances, with no hope of ever coming out alive. Indeed many have pinned all their hopes on someone out there “whoever that is” coming up with some kind of rescue package that can save them from this present seemingly cruel and difficult predicament.

But the reality is that the answer is not out there. Rather it is right within each and everyone of us. It is in the mind. The mind is place in which is resident the power and the ability to become free from the life of limitations — a life full of bondage, helplessness, pain, depression, disease, poverty and lack. This very life which has dominated the lives of the majority of humanity. It is also in the mind, wherein lies the power to become masters over the circumstances of life, instead of being victims of those circumstances. Because Man was created fully equipped with the tools that are required to take charge of life and shape one’s destiny, in whatsoever direction one desires to go. However, as has been said by observers — 95% of the entire world population just does not think. Oftentimes when you ask people why are you earning less than they desire, and working at a job that you do not like — while their employer is a hardhearted, unkind individual who does not have their welfare in mind, there are also no options for them out there. Almost always they are not able to link their inability to use their mind with their prevailing situation.

Earl Nightingale the farther of personal development. He was the personal development guru, a true master of his mind.

to think, if Man is to live the life of choice. Earl Nightingale said “We become what we think about. All of us are self made. But only the successful will admit it”. Shakespeare said “Its not in our stars, but in ourselves that we are underlings”. Our thoughts, conscious and unconscious, are the very blueprint that controls our destiny. So in order to do, to have and to achieve that which we want, there is need to first make changes in the mind. Here are some tips to help you take charge of this very important tool in which lies the power to unlock your limitless life:

1. Have a dream and set clear and written goals to achieve it: What is it that you want to achieve? Horace Mann said “We should be ashamed to die before we have made a contribution to mankind”. What is that which you will be remembered for, long after you have left this realm? What is it that you would like to spoken of you by those whose lives you touched? We are all in this earth for a purpose. It is important for you to find out what that is and create a plan to achieve it. The most successful people in the world are the ones who are living according to the purpose for their lives.

2. Guard your thoughts against discouragement:And the bigger your dream / purpose the more and bigger the discouragement you will meet. It is self deception to expect that everyone will cheer you up and fall in line behind you. That is why you need to guard your mind with vigilance. A guard is someone whose job is to grant or deny permission to those who wish to enter. The fact that visitors do make demands to enter into the premises of a company is not something that the guard can prevent. However, there is something that he can certainly do, which is either to allow or block their entry. Similarly, many thoughts will seek entry into your mind, with the intention to not only enter and settle, but also to begin to create in their own likeness, a life for you to live. That is the reason why you should not allow any thought, especially if it is not in line with your dream or purpose, to gain entry into your mind. Only give permission to enter into your mind, those thoughts which will produce for you the kind of life that you want.

3. Rid your mind of thoughts of weakness, failure and defeat: It is said that whether you think that you can or you think that you cannot, you are correct. At any given point in your life, your thoughts are either dragging you down or lifting you up. Your thoughts will guarantee you success, or they will most certainly ensure your failure. It’s your choice. What you think is what you get, so think what you want to get. Think thoughts that are in line with your dreams and purpose for your life. If you think that you are going down, most surely you will find your life going down. If you think something is too hard and you can’t learn it, then, guess what, so shall it be done unto you as you have believed. Everything starts with your thoughts. The Bible says, “out of your belly shall flow rivers of living waters”. Surely there shall no taps of water be seen pouring out of your stomach. However, it is out of the depth of your creative domain that you will be able to give birth to the kind of life that you have chosen. If you are thinking success, then you will give life to success, but if you are thinking poverty, lack, and defeat, out of your belly you will give life to the same. Your thoughts become reality. Be a diligent guard of the thoughts that you permit into your mind.

4. Awaken the creative ability in you. Man is a creator. Outside the garden of Eden Man has taken over the creation of that which he requires to enjoy his stay in the earth. Think about it — from the car that you so love and enjoy driving, to the chair on which you are sitting, the clothes that you wear, the bed upon which you sleep, the computer or mobile gadget on which you reading this article — they are all born out of somebody’s thoughts. In fact the next time you are tempted to brag about some designer item that you own, — which was created by another person — ask yourself this question, “when will others also enjoy my own designs?” You are a creator. There is creative ability in your thoughts. Use your mind to create the life of your dream.
