Oh Wonder’s Beautiful Insight of What it Means to Be Human

A couple from London, Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West, make up the alternative-pop music group Oh Wonder. Since 2014, they have released two albums: Oh Wonder and Ultralife. For their self-titled album, Oh Wonder, they release a song each month throughout the year of 2014. Finally, in 2015, they release all fifteen songs together under the album of Oh Wonder. In 2017 their second studio album, Ultralife, was released with twelve new songs.
On their first album, the eleventh song is titled ‘All We do’. According to Vander Gucht and West, they wrote this song in regards to taking risks rather than living an ordinary life and putting on rose colored glasses to see things with a new perspective. They beautifully created one of my favorite music videos that perfectly represents the meaning of their song. They asked artist and film makers what it means to be human, and in the video you see and hear the answers to the big question while having the song play in between the responses. This incredible video spoke to me in many ways, one by hearing what one of the female responders say “You have to accept where you are, because when you accept where you are then it is a lot easier to move forward”. Personally, accepting where I am right now has been very hard for me because I thought that the plan I had was going to go in my favor. Instead, I am having to take a side road before I get to continue on with my original plan. Accepting this side road has been difficult because I, or so I thought, was ready to reach my dreams now. Life has its ways of showing you that you can achieve your biggest dreams, but sometimes you have to take a different path in order to get there.

I would recommend this music video to anyone who feels like they are stuck and/or feels they have no purpose. This video brings light to the deepest of thoughts that we as humans have. It shows that we all go through the same obstacles and that we all desire the same thing — to be human. I believe Oh Wonder is making a beautiful impact, especially to their fans, to let others be heard and letting them know that they are not alone.
