This week I’m really excited that local Mama and savvy shopper Georgia has agreed to do a guest post with her top 10 of cheaper vs posh items, enjoy!

Georgia previously worked as sustainability manager and menu developer for The Breakfast Club. She lives with her husband and their 18 month old in Harlesden, North West London.

Here I’ll handover to Georgia…

I am a sucker for beautiful branding and I have had expensive taste since forever. There’s no way of putting it without sounding like a pretentious so & so…If money was no object I’d shop exclusively at Waitrose and Wholefoods but it is and since becoming a mum I’ve managed to scour the aisles and search online for the best that doesn’t require us to take out another mortgage to supplement my taste!

I’m also really passionate about reducing our waste and avoid anything tested on animals so if that’s your bag have a read!

1.Diptyque Figuier candle £47 SpackeNK vs. Fig candle / Reed Diffuser ALDI £3.99 /£3.99

Honestly, the branding is within an inch of being sued for copyright infringement but they’ve totally nailed this scent. I have a diffuser in my bedroom and I get a beautiful waft if the fragrance every time I go in there.

2. Fairy Non Bio Washing Capsules £X vs. Eco Egg 720 wash £19.99 from Amazon UK

Unnecessary plastic, chemicals and animal testing just a few reasons to avoid the big brand favourite. This egg can last for up to 720 washes before you need to replace it and I find it works just fine for an every day wash on 40 degrees. You can always add some fabric conditioner if you like your washing to have a bit of a scent. Either way, so handy to have in case you run out of your regular washing product.

3. Moët & Chandon Imperial NV £38.99 Majestic Wines vs. Lidl Comte de Senneval Champagne Brut, AOP NV1 £10.99

These Champagnes have similar tasting notes and came out with the same score from Good Housekeeping’s Christmas Bubbly Taste Test. I mean, it’s a no brainer you can basically get 4 bottles for the price of one! Stock up!

4. Driscolls Raspberries Wholefoods £3.98 vs. Driscolls Raspberries Lidl £1.99

Same brand just half the price!

5. Takeaway Pizza £10 (ish) vs. Picard Superior Margherita Pizza £4.95 from Ocado

Keep in the freezer for those last minute meals or a cheap night in at the weekend. Hands down the best supermarket pizzas out there! They are so unbelievably good and you can always add extra toppings to make them a bit more interesting if you fancy.

6. Pixie Glow Tonic £18 from Cult Beauty vs. Superdrug Naturally Radiant Glycolic Acid £2.95

This acid toner is a total bargain! It contains the same amount of glycolic acid, an AHA (5%) as the Pixi one and gets rave reviews. This whole range is worth checking out for skincare on a budget.

7. Tampax Regular Tampons (20 per pack) £1.90 from Ocado vs. Dutches Menstrual Cup (pack of 2) £15.99 Amazon UK

Ok, hear me out. At first I wasn’t sure but now I’m a total convert. Yes, it’s an investment compared to buying a box of tampons but they will last you for years, contain no chemicals, no waste to landfill (ewww) and can be worn for up to 12 hours at a time.

8. Garlic bulb £0.50 Ocado vs. Cooks Ingredients Frozen Garlic £1.65 Ocado

Yes a bulb of garlic IS cheaper but who wants garlicky fingers and so much faff! This is a staple in my freezer and really cuts down prep time in the kitchen.

9. Pampers Nappies £4.00 29 Pack vs. Lupilu Nappies LIDL £2.99 36 Pack

They never leak and are much cheaper than the well know brand.

10. Nivea Sun Kids Roll On Sun Protection SPF50 50ml £5.00 Superdrug vs. Solait Kids Roller Suncream SPF50 75ml £2.99 Superdrug

Sun cream is one thing you shouldn’t scrimp on, especially not for your kids but this own brand smells great, is easy to use on little limbs and small enough to carry around in your bag all the time.

Thanks so much Georgia, you’ve definitely given me some new bits to think about buying and maybe have a re-think about my expensive taste and purchasing!
