Let's talk about the final frontier of penetrative sex. The boss level. The position of the professionals. I'm talking about butt stuff!

I first tried anal sex when I was in college. I was feeling super horny one night during sex with my boyfriend and decided I wanted to try something new. Something that I thought of as taboo. And I totally hated it.

We didn't use enough lube. I was so nervous about the possibility of a smell filling the room that wasn't just our sex juices. I swore off anal sex after that.

Fast forward to seven years later, I had just gotten out of a sex-starved marriage and was ready to reclaim my inner slut. I started exploring masturbation, sex toys, and online dating. This trifecta was the perfect storm that led me to be a proud butt slut. I met a guy who was ALL about anal - both giving and receiving. He introduced me to butt plugs, anal beads and silicone-based lube!

Here are some anal toy tips I’ve picked up over the last two years as I’ve been on this journey of sexual exploration.

START SMALL

Sometimes, when trying out a new toy, your eyes can be bigger than your anus. Anal beads typically start out with small bead (usually 2 to 3.5 inches) followed by 2 or more beads that get progressively larger (usually 1 to 1.5 inches larger each bead.) Your anal beads - and any toy you put into your anus- needs to have a flared base or finger hook so it can be easily removed.

GO SLOW

Slow in and slow out! They are completely different sensations. Be gentle with your anal tissues, since our rectum does not create it’s own lubrication, too much friction can cause tearing.

USE LUBE

Always use lube no matter what you’re doing. Be one with the lube. Remember that glass and metal toys, as well as fingers, can use silicone lube. Any toy that is made from silicone should be paired with water-based lube.

TRY VIBRATION

There are some great anal toys out there that offer more than just penetrative sensation . B-vibe makes remote-controlled vibrating anal beads for an added sensation. You can also try placing a small bullet vibrator on the flared base or on the tissues around your anus for greater sensation.

JUST RELAX

Your anal tissue stimulates your parasympathetic nervous system, which helps your body relax. You have 2 major nervous systems - one which helps you "feed and breed", known as the sympathetic nervous system, and one to help you "rest and digest." Anal play can actually help you calm down - so as stressed out as you might be going into anal play, your body - by pure nature - is going to be calmer afterward.

I hope these tips and tricks will lead you to having a more pleasurable sex life because you are exploring all the parts of your body that can give you pleasure without shame!
