What is considered rude in the deaf community?

In the deaf community, there are several behaviors that are considered rude or disrespectful. These include not getting the attention of the person you want to speak with before starting to communicate, interrupting someone who is signing, speaking without making an effort to communicate in a way that is accessible to deaf individuals (such as not using gestures or writing), and not maintaining eye contact while signing. It’s important to approach interactions with deaf individuals with respect and consideration for their communication needs.

Saying “nevermind”. Covering your mouth with anything while you’re talking. Remember that we are visual human beings and we cannot hear tone of voice so we are dependent on your expressions and body language. A lot of deaf people don’t get sarcasm or understand idioms because they’ve never heard it before. Preferring to talk to a hearing person because obviously it’s easier is very insulting. There are a lot of things hearing people take for granted that we don’t and hearing people forget that. You can walk away from a hearing person and say “see ya later” without looking at them, right? To a deaf person, you’re walking away without a goodbye. That’s rude right?

If you know sign language, it is incredibly rude to speak in front of a deaf person without keeping them in the loop. If you’re socializing…
