Popular Call of Duty streamers such as Dr Disrespect have rated Warzone’s Godzilla vs. Kong event as nothing more than a disappointment.

Several popular streamers have called out the Godzilla vs. Kong event for being a disappointment. Call of Duty’s Godzilla vs. Kong crossover — titled Operation: Monarch — went live today, May 11, across all platforms. Rumors about the event began circulating in March, thanks to details shared by industry insiders such as Tom Henderson. The rumors and speculation persisted for a few weeks before Activision finally confirmed the two monsters would indeed enter the fray.

Activision Blizzard officially teased the crossover content in mid-April, complete with marketing posters hinting at Godzilla’s and Kong’s arrival. A cinematic trailer for Call of Duty’s Operation: Monarch hit the web not too long thereafter, showing King Kong easily taking down a warplane before Godzilla inserted himself into the chaos. Yet another trailer made the rounds before the advent of Warzone’s and Vanguard’s Season 3 content release; naturally, it, too, built up quite a bit of hype for the Godzilla vs. Kong Operation. Apparently, such anticipation was for naught.

Today, Activision unleashed Operation: Monarch, allowing Call of Duty: Warzone players to experience the thrill of going head-to-head against pop culture icons Godzilla and King Kong. According to multiple streamers, though, the all-new Godzilla vs. Kong event doesn’t exactly live up to the hype. Dr Disrespect took to his personal Twitter page to rate Operation: Monarch as a 2.2 out of 10. Another popular Call of Duty streamer, Nickmercs, expressed his disappointment in the “ awful” event as well, lamenting that the two titans “ don’t even fight.” Content creator Swagg added to the chorus by simply wondering why the crossover lacks a fight scene.

This Warzone event is awful. Maybe we’re spoiled from the Fortnite ones, but damn bro. King Kong & Godzilla don’t even fight 😂

Replies from other Twitter users on the above posts suggest most players agree that Call of Duty: Warzone’s Godzilla vs. Kong crossover failed to meet the lowest of expectations. Others argue that Call of Duty faithful should expect nothing but the bare minimum with respect to Warzone events, even those with the marketing support that Operation: Monarch received in the weeks leading up to today’s launch.

Admittedly, Warzone in its current state may not sit atop Activision Blizzard’s list of priorities at present. During its Q2 financial report this past April, the publisher confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone sequel will receive a formal reveal sometime this calendar year. Developer Infinity Ward leads development on the project, which it’s producing alongside a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare.
