2019 almost disappeared at the blink of an eye! But I have also binged on some really great shows this year. Here is a list of my personal favourites, not in any particular order. Some of them have me cry, some made me laugh uncontrollably, some made me wonder about life and some made me want to give up on humanity. But here we are at the end of 2019, waiting for more shows to release in the upcoming year.

  1. Fleabag — Phoebe Walder-Bridge won over a million hearts with this quirky cynical humour. I think this show resonated with a lot of girls out there no matter where they are in the world.
  2. Silicon Valley — I know I joined the bandwagon very late but I am hella glad I binged on it this year with its finale season just streaming online. If you find me missing for a couple of days, you know what I am up to.
  3. Modern Family — For the longest time I have put off watching this show holding some kind of bias but it proved me wrong and how. Today, I am a fan! I eagerly wait every Thursday for the new episode to come out. I’m sad its the last season ever after 10 long seasons but this show I truly feel will be up the charts for many!
  4. Atypical — I watch this show mainly for Brigette Lundy-Paine but the last two seasons have been so wholesome. I have laughed and cried together in so many episodes.
  5. Peaky Blinders — Where do I even begin! I started this show when they were on their second season. Now six seasons down, I can never get enough of it. Why? Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy!
  6. Chernobyl — This show is on the list for its cinematography. Some shots were so surreal like I was watching it as it was happening!
  7. Barry — A laugh riot. The second season was the cherry on the cake, especially number 5 (ronny/lilly). Stunned how people can write shows so bloody well!!!
  8. Bojack Horseman — Dark comedy is right up my ally. This show has consistently delivered dialogues that have blown my mind. It's so hard to pick my personal favourite episode, but season 6 episode 2 (the new client) hit me on so many levels! With just the second part of season finale left, I already sense a hole in my life without the constant banter of Bojack.
  9. Game of Thrones (meh!) — It had to be on the list. I began my GoT journey when the first two seasons were out and I have been regularly following like a geek ever since then. I usually prefer the books over shows/movies but with Game of Thrones, I have not really gotten the chance to finish reading them all. Now unless JRRM delivers a crazy ending, I do not see myself picking up where I left off.
  10. Mindhunter — I have developed a taste for crime thrillers over the last couple of years. Mindhunter season 1 is incredibly slow. Slower than True Detective season 1 for me but the storyline didn’t fail to deliver. With 2 seasons down, its hands down my favourite. Criminal psychology is intense!
  11. Black Mirror — I mean, do you want to get mindfucked? This is your go-to. Only love for black mirror.
  12. Big Mouth — Started watching this after being forced by my roommate but I quite like it now. Weirdly explicit and humorous. I would love to get to know my hormone monster too!
  13. This is Us — I’ve never really had a taste for drama series but This Is Us is raw and yet simplistic. I don’t know one person who hasn’t cried watching this show.
  14. The Wire — Yeah the 2002 TV show. The show of the yesteryear. But, is it? I think The Wire is hands down one of the best shows I have ever watched. So ahead of its time and watching it in 2019 I was so blown away! This will always be timeless. Also, young Idris Elba.
  15. Big Little Lies — Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz and Meryl Streep. I got to say no more. Its only 2 seasons long, if you haven’t watched it yet, then get on it now!
  16. Russian Doll — Natasha Lyonne. I love her from OITNB but she has done wonders to Russian Doll.
  17. South Park — What is better than absolute random comedy after a really fucked up day. I love South Park for how they can never run out of ideas 23 seasons into the show.
  18. True Detective — One main man reason — Mahershala Ali!
  19. Euphoria — If you think GoT is explicit, wait till you watch Euphoria. They truly deserve a mention for all the eye make up! Zendaya’s display of teenage depression is nothing short of perfection. Although realistically, which school kid has such access to money and drugs.
  20. Orange Is the New Black — The last season aired this year. If you haven’t watched this yet, stop everything else and get on it right now. I usually hate how shows come to an end but OITNB has come one full complete circle. The last season was exceptional and didn’t leave any story behind. every character reached where they started, and you very rarely see this with shows these days.
  21. The Crown — Who is not fascinated by the life of Queen Elizabeth II?! I commend this show for its accurate representation of facts without any bias or prejudice. Season 3 is right around the corner and I can’t wait to watch Olivia Colman as older Queen. Claire Foy gave the role 100% justice.
  22. Man in the High Castle — A fictional spin to historical events, the show has hit all the right cords with the storyline, cinematography and character arcs. High Castle is gravely underrated.
  23. Love, Deaths and Robots — My personal favourite episodes are the Fish Night, Sonnie’s Edge, Three Robots and Alternative Histories.
  24. The Explained Series — Streaming on Netflix. The Mind, Explained is also equally fantastic. 20-minutes informative episodes on a particular topic like extraterrestrial life, female orgasm, monogamy, anxiety, psychedelics really caught my fascination.
  25. Chefs Table — All seasons, including the pastries and street food series are one of a kind.
  26. Outlander — Every time I decide to stop watching the show, it leaves me wanting for more. I can’t quite pin what is extraordinary but if you like history shows, this is one of them.
  27. Vikings — Speaking of history shows, Vikings tops my charts too. I need to catch up on the latest season but the previous ones have been pretty interesting. Although not all characters are accurately represented, it makes for a good show to go down in history.

I end my list for now. I do not think I have exhausted my watching list and preferences but this is as much I can pull out from the top of my head.

Coming soon, my favourite movies in 2019.
