I substituted “More” for pagination
Redesign Hacker News!
Andrew Coyle

I don’t know how you will handle this. Traditionally, when using pagination you know total count, and can derive number of pages. Once that is done, if you directly jump to say page 5 from page 1 (and each page say contains 10 entries) you know you’ll start from 51st entry.
With hackernews, based on voting the number keeps changing. I think that is why they have just “more” (which is equivalent of “next”) at times, you see same threads on page 2, because some threads earlier on page1 were downvoted, and now moved to page2, or other threads were voted up and moved to page1, thus the thread you just read is now on page 2
I hope I am not confusing you ;)
