Hello Mudda, hello world…
An Update from Boot-camp

So it’s halfway through week 3 and life is good so far. The other boot-campers are cool people, the instructor is really good at his job and the material is getting challenging (which is a good thing, in my book).
Having come to the program with a lot of previous experience with HTML and CSS and a fair amount of vanilla JavaScript, I was kind of expecting to be bored stiff for the first 2–3 weeks. Not the case.
Actually, it’s been really nice to be able to help other students out and explaining things to other people helps me gain an even deeper understanding of the core concepts. Also — my being largely self-taught — it’s great to be able to work through bugs with other people and get immediate answers to any questions I have. Much quicker than spending hours on Google/Stack Overflow/YouTube/etc. trying to find someone who can explain it to me in a ways that makes sense. Also, the homework we get assigned each night is awesome practice. ☺
In fact, I’m amazed at how quickly we’re progressing through the material. At the end of the first week people who had little-to-no previous coding experience were doing a PSD to HTML conversion and at the end of the second, understood vanilla JS and well enough to debug code written by other people. I think it took me at least a few weeks on my own to be able to do that.
Not to mention the other stuff we’re learning, like Git and how to use the console. It’s a truly incredible experience.
And I know I haven’t been very good about keeping up with my blog posts up until now, but I’ve decided to try to write something every day. Especially while I have spare time after the day’s homework. We’ll see how long that lasts…
