Katniss Everdeen may have inspired the design for Alex in Minecraft

Katniss Everdeen, a fictional character from the Hunger Games trilogy

Fictional character Katniss Everdeen may have inspired one of the default characters in Minecraft, called Alex. If you are not familiar with Katniss or Alex, we’ll quickly go over them.

Katniss Everdeen is the main character from the Hunger Games trilogy by bestseller Suzanne Collins. She battles in 2 Annual Hunger Games -a frightening event held in an arena, where children fight to death- with her “star-crossed lover”, Peeta Mellark. Katniss Everdeen eventually escapes the grasp of the Capital -the strict and oppressive government- and President Snow, who is basically a dictator (he eventually dies). Once Katniss escapes, she sparks a rebellion against the Capital and her home town gets destroyed by government forces. This eventually kills her sister, who was her world to her, and makes her even more mad. The Hunger Games is sometimes resembled to the Harry Potter books for the next various reasons: Katniss is the leader and eye of the rebellion (Rebellion vs The Capital, Hogwarts vs Death Eaters), Katniss is against the most evil person that exists (President Snow, Voldemort), Katniss has a main skill that makes her special (Archery, Wizardry), Katniss loses someone she loved (Prim/Primrose, Lilly and James Potter).

Alex, a default female character from Minecraft

But Harry isn’t who could have inspired Alex from Minecraft. After all, she doesn’t have a wand and a braid.

Alex is on of the free default characters you are allowed to choose from in the popular MMO Sandbox game, Minecraft, where you have to build, eat and drink to survive, all whilst avoiding Skeletons, Enderman, Creepers, Spiders, Zombies, Witches and other ‘mobs’.

In Minecraft, you have to survive with nothing. You will have to go out and collect resources, then craft them into furniture and handy items you might use. Not only that, the food comes from killing virtual animals such as Pigs and Cows. For example; if you want a bed, you’d have to go out and find some wool (comes from killing Sheep), and wood. The game is actually very educational and teaches millennials how one might survive without any actual resources. It’s popular between the age gap of 7 to 15. You can be guaranteed that if you have know a child who’s over 7 years of age, they’ll know what Minecraft is.

ALEX CLOSELY RESEMBLES KATNISS

Alex can use weapons, has a braid tied back, doesn’t have that much great clothes. It was recently spotted in a recent article that was popular online a week ago, where the author pointed out how even Steve could resemble Peeta Mellark. We will not be contacting Mojang/Minecraft/Notch for further details, but the more you might look into it the more that will be uncoved about Alex and Steve’s origins. There is alot of Katniss Everdeen themed ‘skins’, but they don’t look that much like Alex, which questions the statement.

It’s entirely up to you what you believe, but we truly believe it resembles Katniss Everdeen.
