Disclaimer: No, this is not just another article teaching you “How to blog”.

Earlier days when the culture of blogging came in a question use to repeat in my mind, why? Are the people getting bored and thats why they are blogging about practically anything and that too for free? There were more such questions which are impractical in today’s topic. Lets jump in.

1. Basic Questions

The two basic question you must ask to yourself before you start blogging are :

a. Why? Yes please do ask. This simply because there are so many blogs on same article out there on internet. Why again another? Why do you suddenly thought of starting a blog? If you need to promote anything or show your knowledge you can jolly well do them on dozens of social networking sites available. Are you inspired by anyone? Are you planning to earn by blogging? There are so many motives behind blogging. There are some common answers, I am supa-bored at home, I love to write, I am polishing my writing skills or simply I want to share my knowledge with outer world and many more.

b. What? This is another thing you must take care of i.e. what are you going to blog about. Just adding one another already existing topic is pointless. Are you focused on what type of blog you are going to write about? There are so many streams. If you stick to one particular type of topic your followers will increase. This is because if you start writing on random topics the number of followers may at first look huge but as time passes by they will fade. This is because a tech guy wont ever be interested in women jewelry. May be he came back to read your next blog since he is following for your first blog on android apps. If again on the next day he comes back and see you wrote on some medical topic he would simply unfollow you. So its better to stick to your type of blogging. Some of the common topics are : Photography, Technology, Tutorials, Cooking, Romance, Travel, Fashion and Living and many more. Decide what are you going to write and start blogging.

The immediate question that follows this two is How? As I have already said there are loads of other blogs to discuss on them like this one or this one and many others.

2. Target Audience

This is the most vital question if you are blogging on purpose of advertising or product launching or popularizing something. Target audience depends on the type of blog you are writing. In order to build up your audience you have to write frequenlty and stick to your type of topics and research more before blogging. Once you get comments answer them as soon as possible.

Write in the language of your target audience. A coder would easily understand your codes but a layman would not. Similarly if you are targeting a professional photographer, keep in mins those blogs will be followed by other beginner photographers too. So do never go ultra pro. write in a way that is easily understandable by all.

3. Capability of Tweaking

There are most blogging platforms which requires coding knowledge to tweak them the way you want your blog to look like. Sites like joomla, wordpress, weebly offers you to tweak them and make your blog the way you want them to be. however if you want hastle free simply blogging platform you can choose Blogger, Medium or Tumbler.

4. Promoting

This is the topic where it comes of motive of your blog, skip it if you are blogging just for time pass. In order to promote your blog the first thing is to bring it to your audience by improving the SEO. You can use your social media to promote your blog by sharing in Facebook, Twitter or Linkedin or Pinterest. you can obviously increase popularity of your blog by conventional advertising methods.

5. Pricing

This is again the case when you need to think of it why you are writing blog all of a sudden. If you want better promotion you have to spend money. For better facilties or blog experiance sites do take money on monthly or yearly subscription basis. For example Joomla, wordpress or drupal are all paid for better facilities.
