Learning is love

I have been an educator for over 15 years now, taught everything from acting in French to SAT math. I’ve changed diapers, coached an 86 year old cardiologist to perform in a contemporary French play and held moms who cried in my arms because they were so worried about how their child was going to perform on a standardized test.

And here is what I’ve learned: the most valuable gift you can give a person you care for, the most significant way you can shape their social, emotional — and yes, intellectual growth — is this:

the gift of your time.

You are just an ordinary, messy, flawed and perfectly imperfect human being, but still — your presence is the best present your child could ever have.
