Mobilographers and Twitographers

Crowd Sourced “Television”

In 2009, about a year after the iPhone launched in Canada, I got really enthusiastic about the idea of people all over the world shooting photos and videos with their mobile devices. I think I was the first person to buy the domain name mobilographer.com. I envisioned an online TV channel powered by millions of people recording “life caught unawares” wherever they lived in the world, as I had lived in many diverse countries by then and I wanted “to show the world to the world”. I had lots of interest in the concept. Even UNESCO loved the idea, but not being a funding agency they could only lend moral support.

It has taken a long time to get where we are with the One Degree App today and the sharing of “Social Snaps” is an important part of our plans — the ability to ping anyone using the app for a FREE photo or video of something locally relevant as a way to learn more about another country and culture.

Yesterday my Twitter account was followed by @twitographers — how cool to find them!

Perhaps that TV channel will yet be a thing, powered by users of One Degree and all the Mobilographers and Twitographers in the world.

I hope that you will join us!
