A Trip to Qoozies….

This week we went to Qoozies. If you have never been you should put it on your list of places to visit when you’re in Chesterfield town center… it truly is a one of a kind place.

Mario wanted to offer the people of Chesterfield a place to go where they knew they would receive delicious meals that were healthy and freshly prepared, something that was lacking in the area.

And so in October 2014 Qoozies opened its doors for the first time.

A small café situated on the outside of the Market Hall, it has a very rustic and welcoming feel. Upstairs you will find a seating area with just a few tables, a toilet and a couple of high chairs (always a sure sign that children are welcome). Downstairs is where the food is prepped and you can grab a meal to go if you’re in a hurry. Here you will also see heaps of fresh food which is sourced from local traders where possible to support local businesses and to keep costs at a minimum. Seating is also available outside.

Whilst the seating upstairs can be a pain for parents with pushchairs, Mario and his staff are more than willing to help anyone who requires it so don’t let this put you off. I’ve also been informed that due to the popularity of Qoozies with parents and children a new stair-less premises may be on the horizon so keep an eye on their Facebook page for announcements in the future.

Now… the important stuff…. The food. Oh my, the food. Its delicious, go order it, go order it all now! Joking aside, the food is truly delicious and my 3 year old loves it!

I think the thing I love the most about Qoozies is that there actually isn’t a kids menu… I know that’s weird as I’m telling you this is a child friendly establishment… BUT it’s a great thing as the kids can have half portions of anything on the menu at half the price. Winner. Kids always want to eat what mummy or daddy are having so for them to actually be able to have what mummy and daddy are having is great.

There’s lots of choice available but the staff recognize that it’s the more simple foods that are favourites to their younger customers…. Things like:

  • Strawberry, Banana and Apple smoothie.
  • Milkshakes
  • Banana Pancakes
  • Cheese and ham toasties
  • Pressed Juices

Another thing that I think is great is that you can simply purchase a piece of fruit if you wish… this is such a great idea if you’re having a catchup with friends but you don’t want the kids scoffing down cakes and biscuits before lunch. It will even arrive beautifully chopped if you like.

For lunch, my 3 year old went for the freshly prepared cheese and ham toastie which arrived on a lovely heart shaped board (learning opportunities for shapes too ;) ) and the fresh pressed apple juice which came served in a kilner jar with the biggest wedge of apple you ever did see. Usually my kids love juice although not the freshly made kind but this went down a storm! He loved it and even asked for more. This is particularly brilliant for anyone whose kids refuse their fruit and veggies as they couldn’t possibly resist something so tasty.

Qoozies also offer seasonal specials which at the time of writing in December 2016 was the Santa hot chocolate. It is amazing and if you read this before its gone you need to try it, it’s a real indulgence but hey, its December and calories don’t count ;) Come January the specials will be back to detoxing juices ;)

If you’d like to see a video of this spectacular drink have a looksie > here<

We came away with a very happy boy who asked to go there again tomorrow… something which I’m told happens regularly and Qoozies often becomes the child’s place of choice to visit when in town.

I’m pretty sure this will become one of our regular haunts, I love the menu and the healthy choices on offer and I’m sure you will too. Table bookings are available during busy periods so please get in touch with Qoozies directly if you’d like to book in advance.
