A Common Future with Blockchain Technology

Technology developers, FinTech entrepreneurs and innovators around the World are super excited about Blockchain technology, and have been for a number of years now, and they should be! For a long time coming, this technology known as the Blockchain has almost human like desires. There I’ve said it, human like desires!

I’m quite often referred to as the ‘Spiritual Scientist’. You see, the left side of my brain is completely charged with creativity. I write poems, short stories, I meditate and have a background in graphic design. The right side however, thinks a bit more rationally, more logically and over the years, my programming team have made me aware of how code is defined to a set of mathematical rules. I get it, I used to design websites using HTML tables! Shhhh, don’t tell anyone! In my defence, this was over 15 years ago and before the introduction of Div structures and CSS, therefore I believe that…

Consumers do not care about Blockchain
It’s important to recognise that although Blockchain is consumer focused, in many cases and in the very near future, consumers will not care and possibly not even be aware that it is Blockchain technology that is powering their website or mobile application.

Before heading towards the future of Blockchain, it’s important to quickly reflect on consumer behaviour with the Internet over the last 20 years. Let’s to that, real quick.

How many consumers, who browse and use the Internet on a daily basis know that the URL they enter into a web browser is simply there to disguise a series of numbers known as an IP address? How many of them know that this IP is the address or location of a server that has a series of files which, when clicked on, open and display a web page. Not many I’m guessing. Do consumers even care? Of course they do not. The same thing is inevitable with Blockchain.

Now, just because consumers may not care, that does not mean the Blockchain community shouldn’t. We’re all super-charged with this revolutionary find, and I certainly am one of them. Then there is…

Early UX
Coming back to the mind of the consumer, let’s back track a little more. I remember browsing the Internet on my iMac, way back in 2000. There was this bright coloured, transparent, out of this World, alien-like machine on my desk at home and I would open up Internet Explorer. When accessing a website (and there weren’t many back then), I had to enter the full web address, including the prefix ‘www.’. This protocol is pretty much redundant now and is hardly ever used or seen on brands and their marketing campaigns. Did the consumer ever notice this change? Have they ever given this a second thought? The answer is no.

There are so many other examples of protocols and interactions with the Internet that have disappeared. I gave the URL example above, who even enters a URL nowadays? Today, it’s quicker to enter a few words into Google, click, click away and click again and you’ve found what you were looking for. Mobile apps are making the browsing experience less and less. However, I’m still optimistic about browser technology. It does need some looking at and there is plenty of room for disruption in this space too.

The above few examples are exactly why I encourage technology developers, corporations and Government organisations in this space to not get too carried away with promoting the fact that you are adopting Blockchain technology. Just get on with it. Research and innovation is far more important than singing from the roof-tops right now. This revolution is very new, so before we shout about, let’s harness its’ true potential and make it work.

That does not mean to say that organisations or application developers should not share knowledge and learn from each others findings. On the contrary. I seriously just want to see any company or World leading organisation that has a passion for change to hire the talent and seriously disrupt their industry, their internal processes, their personnel. They will be the ones who get my attention, and then there truly be…

A new World order with Blockchain
As more and more corporations begin to learn about the Blockchain, they will be forced to harness it’s true nature and will ultimately lead to being more ethical companies. The good thing about this is that, most of the larger corporations and World organisations are already striving towards a higher ethical standard of practice.

Adopting Blockchain technology does not mean reduced profits for shareholders. So if there are any shareholders reading this, don’t worry you’re completely safe. In fact, I believe it’ll encourage more profit because Blockchain will fill the gaps where there may be friction in current business processes, and we will know that where there is friction, there is cost. Blockchain will sit somewhere in between your existing technological infra-structure and what the end user or consumer will experience.

A Common Future
I like to think that we’re all heading towards a common future, not just technologically but emotionally and intellectually. More and more people today are adopting a vegetarian or vegan diet. People are using organic and natural products. Alternative medicine and ancient healing techniques are fast becoming the norm. This is a conscious shift for mankind.

We are now entering the realm of a superior technology, and the human like attributes and principles of the Blockchain will remain a constant in the future. It will certainly evolve and most likely take on a new identity, however we will one day look back and be reminded of a set of immutable rules and commands that resemble mankind’s desire to live in a fairer World.

Blockchain technology is likely to be the early adoption towards creating the perfect World. Nothing happens over night, but for the first time in a long time, there’s something to get excited about.
