My Leadership Philosophy Poem
Written as an Occupational Therapy Student in early Spring of last year (2016), but now ready to share with the world…..
Compassion, Unity and Love-these are values that I’ve been given from above. When I think of compassion, I think of not just being there, but sharing in the pain, the joys and the tears. U-N-I-T-Y, why is it so hard to put down our pride and come together with one stride. Love, this is not just a like button on Facebook, but to take a real look at a stranger in the hospital bed and say-I will not give up on you, even when you can’t see it through.
Before I can change the world, I need to change my world. By my world I mean my heart, I need to ask myself, do I want to be like them or set apart? Why is this so hard? So, you want to be a leader? You need to check your inner meter so that you can make someone else a believer.
Empathy, not just sharing feelings of glad, but also sad. Before I pass judgment, I need to ask myself, what made them like this? Can I take a step in my neighbor’s shoe, can I ask myself what would you do?
So you want to help develop? And not just put a checkbox on a strength from Gallup. I’ve got to continue looking for the good in my neighbor-even when it seems they are not doing themselves a favor. Trust me they will appreciate you, and success they will savor.
I am an Individual. I appreciate an individual. Generalizations can bore me, but our different stories can cultivate unity.
They say Manny, what do you believe? I believe in life and truth from above. I believe in my values and it all points to love. This is what makes me who I am. They say actions speak louder than words and for this, my belief in Christ, I cannot be tame.
Communication, could this be? StrengthsFinder says this is me. Sometimes I find it hard to believe, but a wise man once told me confidence is the key. Communication, this is me.
So, you want to be a model, and not on the runway. You think you’re a leader or an example you say? You need to continue to be dependable, you need to be more open, people can learn from your mistakes. It’s never too late, to show them how you changed. And even if you make a mistake, you are human, sometimes it’s that way. When they see your vulnerability, then they will start to believe.
They say your easy going, they say you’re chill. You shut yourself up so that no one thinks you’re ill. Forget about the quota. If you’ve got something on your mind, go ahead and spill. Challenge the process, ask the questions, and show your will.
If you can show your true self and not be scared to take a fall, others will follow and share your call.
So, you want to be a leader, how can this be done? Why did you choose Creighton to get your degree done? When you have been blessed like me, you can’t help but want others to share in the glee. Life is beautiful, life is a joy, life can’t be taken for granted or made into a ploy. It is my goal to see OT served in a place where there is a great need. Being in this program was a huge step towards this goal for me.
So, you want to be a leader? You’ve got some ways to go. Just one step a time, they will follow when you show. Don’t be discouraged, but just grow. You are a leader. Ready. Set, and Go.
