Anti Abduction Tips
Recently we had a situation in our area where a young female was walking to her bus stop in the early morning hours…The young female’s parents received a text from her stating that she was abducted and was locked in the trunk of a vehicle. Needless to say, that sparked a state wide law enforcement search for the girl. Later that day she was found alive and investigators concluded she had lied about the entire ordeal.
The bottom line here is that this could have been the real thing. This prompted me to organize tactics that I have taught to Dignitary Protection Teams throughout the globe and revise them for the civilian world.
Keep in mind, every situation is different. Many times the environment in which you are in will dictate how you must handle the situation. Keep an open mind at all times.
1) First and foremost keep your head on a swivel, look around be aware of your surroundings specially when there is no one around. Prevention is always the best alternative.
2) Become what we call a “Hard Target”. Stand up straight, no slouching, carry yourself with a confident demeanor. The harder you make it for the perpetrator the less of a chance they will go through with the abduction.
3) If you are in a fight for your life “No Rules Apply”. Use anything and strike with everything you have. Fingers, palms, elbows, feet, knees or teeth. You can also use things you carry such as keys, pens, cell phone, belt etc.
4) Turn the tables on the perpetrator. Become the aggressor, don’t stop until you can get away. Once you have escaped, run towards a public place.
5) Yell as loud as you can… use words such as Rape, Fire, Police and Help. This is no time to be shy!
6) If you are engaged in a fight, grab on to one of the perpetrator’s legs. Make it difficult for the perpetrator to carry you. This will also make it difficult for the perpetrator to walk.
7) If you are swept of your feet and lifted off the ground swing your head back and forth while kicking your feet up in a rapid manner. This will make it difficult for the perpetrator to regain balance.
8) Not always will an abduction be a surprise. If you see it coming “Do Not Wait” until you are grabbed, the quicker you can turn the tables on the perpetrator the better your chance of escape.
9) If all else fails do the best to get your bearings. It is going to be difficult but as long as you can breathe and are alive gather as much information as you can.
For example; description of perpetrator, vehicle type and color, direction of travel, landmarks etc. The more information you can gather, the more information you can disseminate to authorities.
10) If you have a cell phone leave it on, call or text someone and give as much information as you can. If you can’t talk try to leave the phone on and dial 911.
