Words, ideas and stories make life
Words are powerful. They have the capability of bringing people back from the extreme pains. They can inspire millions to raise up for a cause and fight for what is right. They can instill confidence in a person who is on the verge of breakdown due to fear and anxiety. 1.3 billion people still remember the words from Pandit Nehru- “Tryst with destiny”. Words inspire us, bring us a beacon of hope, help us get up and leap one more time. Words , even when invisible, stir up emotions in every cell of our bodies and make us run towards the end of the tunnel.
Ideas are powerful. Stories are powerful. Brave soldiers fight every single day to guard their countries — an idea of a country they firmly believe in. They transcend language , color and background varieties to stand shoulder to shoulder in defense of a belief. People everyday work for companies and large organizations which are nothing but myths built on top of bigger stories and ideas like law and common social practices.
“No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change this world”- Dead Poets Society
Humankind has come to this fascinating point and one major reason is its ability to build stories- real and fictional-around everyday things, larger than life imaginations, food, dreams, future etc. A bunch come to believe in these stories which then become group beliefs and then scale up to turn into social norms and ways of life. In market place of ideas called the world, some stories are accepted, some rejected but some grow beyond the original tellers of those stories. A film made 40 years ago can speak volumes of meaning to a person born 20 years ago. Poems of BC era warms up our soul even to this day. We come out of a play performance ,losing a part of us as a price to gain a part of something else. We die every day and we are reborn everyday through the words, the ideas and the stories.
To all the wordsmiths out there, thanks for the stories which makes sense in the chaos called life. To all the weavers of ideas, thanks for keeping our oen selves from falling apart.
Because, as someone truly said “Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof”
