ChatGPT 3.5 was released in 2021 and quickly became known for its impressive language capabilities. It can generate coherent and contextually appropriate responses to various prompts. However, with technology, there is always room for improvement.

In contrast, OpenAI has been working for a long and recently launched the next iteration of its language model, ChatGPT 4. This event gave birth to the battle of ChatGPT 4 vs. ChatGPT 3.5.

So let’s find out what changes they have made and how different the latest version is from its previous one in this blog post.

ChatGPT 4 — Introduction!

ChatGPT 4 is the latest and another flagship offering from OpenAI. Simply put, it is the upgraded version of the previous one, ChatGPT 3.5. It was launched on March 14, 2023. As proclaimed by the officials, it is ten times more advanced than the previous version.

This latest update comprises the maximum token limit of 32000 (equivalent to 25K words), a way better increase than its predecessor 4000 (equivalent to 3125 words).

ChatGPT 4 Unifid Functionalities!

OpenAI’s latest launch bot has many new functionalities and upgrades. Some of them are necessary in contrast to the previous versions’ lack. Here are some highlighted functionalities updates that have made the difference between ChatGPT 4 vs. ChatGPT 3.5.

Extend Context:

The new OpenAI bot, ChatGPT 4, can simultaneously process a maximum of 25K words, eight times more than ChatGPT 3.5. It means the more significant content creation, document search, and generating more extended conversation problem has been resolved. It has been possible because of the advanced deep-learning approach.

Greater Creativity:

Finally, the officials have understood the content creators’ problems and devised this solution. The latest version has better creativity in responses than the previous one. It’s not up to the human brain level, but I am happy they have progressed in this context.

Better Visual Inputs:

Another significant improvement happened in its Image and graphics understanding. However, this part’s work is in progress, and officials said it would soon reach its full potential. But once done, the chatbot can comprehensively handle various visual documents, including infographics, photos, screenshots, and diagrams.

F.e — You can now upload various ingredients images in the bot and ask it to suggest the dish you can make using them.

ChatGPT 4 Limitations!

“With improved version comes better performance and accuracy than the previous versions.”

The above phrase is true in this ChatGPT 4 vs. ChatGPT 3.5 battle, but up to a certain point. ChatGPT 4 possesses similar limitations as its predecessor. However, the performance has increased by nearly 40% in factuality prospects.

This improvement credit goes to the Reinforcement Learning from Human Preferences (RLHF) post-training. Now this latest ChatGPT version can distinguish facts from false statements. Moreover, its capabilities to store and learn from human feedback have improved significantly.

To reduce the bias risk in the language model, OpenAI integrated several advanced techniques, including data augmentation, diversity metrics, and debiasing algorithms.

These are preferred techniques programmers often enable in the bot mechanism to detect and remove biases in the training data, ensuring fair and accurate results in response. However, despite this development, ChatGPT-4 has failed to meet expectations.

ChatGPT 3.5 Drawbacks!

This bot version of OpenAi has been the go-to force for many content creators and professionals due to its fast and accurate response. It has the best possible answers, from suggesting the perfect blog outline to generating code and writing poems and songs.

However, similar to the advanced functionality, this OpenAI bot also has some limitations. Those limitations lately have caused its performance and impactfulness.

Limited ability to understand the context:

While GPT-3.5 is good at generating text based on patterns learned from a large corpus of text, it only sometimes understands the context of what it generates. This can lead to nonsensical or inappropriate responses in some situations.

Limited domain-specific knowledge:

While GPT-3.5 can generate text in various contexts. It lacks deep domain-specific knowledge in specific fields. This can lead to inaccuracies or errors in its responses when asked to generate content outside of its general knowledge.

Biased outputs:

As with any machine learning algorithm, GPT-3.5 can produce biased outputs based on the data it is trained on. If the training data contains biases or prejudices, these can be reflected in the language and responses it GPT-3.5 generates.

Lack of common sense and creativity:

GPT-3.5 doesn’t have common sense or real-world knowledge. That’s the reason; it usually generates illogical responses in the actual context. Moreover, it lacks creativity and the ability to generate genuinely novel ideas or insights.

Inability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously:

Unlike human brains, this OpneAI chatbot has failed to showcase its ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Well, you can’t blame him. It has the mechanism and training to handle only one task at a time. You will find primarily irrelevant or repeated answers by simultaneously giving two, three, or more tasks.

An issue in generating long and structured answers:

Being a proactive user, I can assure you this is 100% true. ChatGPT 3.5 version is designed only to provide short and repeated answers to most of your queries. However, the shorter replies it generates are mostly pinpointed and full of information.

What’s next for ChatGPT?

When a bot brings 100+ Million subscribers within a month or two, there’s no going back for it, irrespective of the challenges. Yes, it has many flaws, and with each update (ChatGPT4), it is trying to overcome those stumbling blocks.

Also, the coming road is not easy for it as Google has already barged in with its Google Bard — another AI-based tool of the same category with advanced features and better functionalities than ChatGPT(Claimed by Google officials).

The OpenAI officials know they will have to deal with ChatGPT vs. Google Bard battle sooner or later. So they are expected to work for their platforms’ betterment in all prospects, making it the primary choice in the upcoming time.

Here’s some segment that they can look for improvements in ChatGPT:

● Enhance its ability for multifunctionality, where the bot can seamlessly answer multiple queries simultaneously

● Extension of its reach through the web, API, and robotic integrations

● Enhancing its ability to recall past interactions and prepare a better solution for it

● Developing its ability to identify users

● Provide unbiased and accurate responses to any queries without worrying about feedback

Apart from these, other significant changes may occur in the next version.

Conclusion:

Language models like ChatGPT are designed to understand and generate human-like text, making them incredibly useful for various category applications, from chatbots to content generation. With the launch of ChatGPT 4, OpenAI has showcased its progressive intentions of capturing the market faster than its competitors like Google Bard. The improvements have taken place exactly where they should be. We may see a better and more flexible version according to usage and demand with time.
