Best Multiplayer Animal Games Available to Play, For Free, On Your Browser

--

Multiplayer Animal games for your PC browser have been popular since the concept of free multiplayer gaming was introduced with the likes of early Facebook games.

Farmville, we’re looking at you.

A gaming revolution in most senses of the word, Farmville was an incredibly addictive Multiplayer game that ran out of Facebook’s platform and sucked away the life of dozens of kids, teenagers and even the odd Mom.

You grew crops and raised Animals, and sometimes spent real money on getting the most cows out of your friends. Crazy, really, when you think about it. Over time Farmville’s popularity fizzled out, as these things tend to do, and in turn there have been many replacement and replicas of this original game.

Maybe because of Farmville, many of the free PC Animal multiplayer games on this list are of a similar type. We’ve tried to pick some slight alternatives to this genre to make things more exciting.

.io games rule the roost in the Multiplayer Animal game world

There are dozens of Animal .io games that have fluctuated in popularity over the last year or so. There are still big names like Deeep and Mope that have maintained a solid player base over that time.

.io games first hit popularity in 2016 with the likes of slither.io and agar.io, two huge hits that stormed the gaming world — encouraging even those who hadn’t dabbled in free online browser games before to give them a go. There were millions of players at these game’s height. You can read a little more about slither.io.

It’s expected we’ll see a lot more .io games in the future, as players are beginning to be able to determine which sort of experience they’d like to have online rather than responding bleakly to consistent Triple A flops and PR disasters. This year looks like an impressive year for offline games, though, and we will probably see a fluctuation between the two.

We’re not saying that these PC .io Animal games will replace quality graphics, good writing and ultimately, an expensive price tag, but for the time being there’s definitely a market for these addictive games.

Benefits of .io Animal Multiplayer Games

As we mentioned, these games are extremely addictive.

.io games in general remain one of the most popular forms of browser game.

Why?

And why do we love Animal .io games so much?

There’s no download needed and you can play for free! Some of them also sport great 3D graphics.

Well, have you ever heard of a game called Spore?

Spore was a sandbox and god-mode game developed by the now defunct Maxis Studios (the same studios who were responsible for the super-successful and iconic Sim City games.) In Spore you begin as a single-cell organism and slowly progress through the ages, defeating opponents, forming a tribe and controlling the evolution of your creature.

More than anything, we wished for a Spore multiplayer game. Rather than facing off A.I creatures and tribes, wouldn’t it be awesome to be pitted against real-life opponents?

Many of these .io games create that experience. You evolve from a simple animal into a more complex animal. How far you go, and how quickly, is very much based on your own personal abilities. And the best thing?

These games are available totally for free in your browser, not at a cool $49.99.

Little Big Snake, a game of skills and snakes

Little Big Snake & Slither.io

These two deserve to go side-by-side. Very different games in everything but general gameplay mechanics, Little Big Snake is really the spiritual successor and upgrade to the original slither.io game. Little Big Snake upped the stakes with impressive graphics, an excellent progression and skin system, and generally made the gameplay more complex. This is not taking away from slither.io’s original brilliance, and the game itself is still charming in a simple way.

The main aim of these games — if you’ve somehow never come across either of these massive titles — is to eat colored food and kill other snakes. The main way to knock other snakes out of the game (and collect their delicious goo) is to make them hit your tail. Just like the classic Snake games…

Before we get started on the other Animal multiplayer games on the list, we thought these two games deserved their place at the top. They’re addictive, fun, and in more ways than one, hugely influential. Slither for showing the world that online games could be groundbreaking, and Little Big Snake for inspiring a generation of more involved free browser games.

The fun and addictive Deeep.io

Deeep.io

Deeeep.io (with 4 es) is our favorite newest Animal game that doesn’t involve waiting several hours for virtual corn to grow. In Deeep.io you control an animal of your choosing while you duke it out in the fish-eat-fish world of the ocean.

You’re underwater and hungry. Munch on delicious algae or attack other players, if you’re big enough. As you level up you progress through the evolutionary tree, gaining bigger, better and more powerful abilities and the animal you turn into becomes more kick-ass.

Start off at the bottom of the evolutionary sludge-pile as a bottom-feeding slug or fragile crab. Gather around mineral deposits deep underwater (where the pressure is higher) or hover near the top of the ocean if you prefer to opt (eventually) for flying creatures.

There are multiple biomes, including colder territories, warm water and the deep underwater caves. Different animals can only survive in certain habitats. Progress through the ranks and keep trying new animals. There is a huge variety, from sharks, to giant squids, to oarfish. Check out the game’s WiKi before you play if you want to head into the ocean with a head start!

The aim of this .io game is to become a shark and terrorize the server.

Farmville’s spiritual successor, Goodgame Big Farm

Goodgame Big Farm

From the creators of some of the most popular 3D Multiplayer browser games ever, Goodgame Studios have turned their creative hands towards this farm animal game. Based strongly on Farmville — the similarities you’ll notice right away — Goodgame Big Farm has managed to introduce some of its own specialties to the genre.

Crops still take time to grow, but you can expand your farm with workers and their houses, and in general the style of the game is a bit more strategic. However, this game isn’t strictly Multiplayer. You can check your ranks against opposing farmers, but that’s about it. Limited interaction Multiplayer animal games like this one spawn from the Farmville days, where you could visit other player’s farms and sometimes send gifts.

One day we imagine a world where the farms really are virtual: that you strap on a headset and spend four hours of your real day plucking virtual potatoes from the ground, interacting with other players who decide to trundle past your farm on a tractor. For now, Goodgame Big Farm is about the fest you’re going to get for farming animal games.

Unless you want to pay for Stardew Valley, of course.

Good luck out there, Farmer.

Simple and addictive, Mope.io

Mope.io

Mope is another fun .io game where you work your way up through the evolutionary chain, much like Deeep, but not underwater.

Starting out as a humble bug, you work through the ranks of the natural world, skipping past foxes, the occasional dragon, and plenty of sneaky creatures, to rule supreme. Once you’re one of the larger animals it really is only the bigger “fish” that can finish you off, so play carefully until you reach an impressive size, and then you can start to prey on smaller animals. Just like it works in real life.

Mope.io is one of the most successful .io games of its kind, but it isn’t as regularly updated as Deeep.io. There are still some awesome moments to be had, especially in the large scale battles in the late-game. Watch hippos, lions and eagles try to shred each other apart in what is a fairly competitive and intense .io game.

Oh, and you can also play as a T-Rex.

Sharkz.io

Sharkz.io is one of our favorite .io games but does a lack a little in popularity. With the amount of Animal .io games out there, it’s obvious that some might get lost in the pile. It’s an older game and servers struggle to get past 10–15 players, even during peak time. However, the graphics and stylish and the gameplay is fun.

The great thing about Sharkz.io is that there are A.I sharks you can duke it out with to fill in the gaps between encountering real players. You level up your shark with a variety of skills as you progress up the leaderboard. Watch out for the groups of Hammerheads and the little Lampreys that try to catch you unawares with a few fast attacks.

Munch on smaller fish, battle bigger sharks, emerge the gruesome victor.

Biters.io — extremely addictive munching simulator

Biters.io

Although you’re not a recognizable animal in this free online animal game, these little critters have stubby legs and big teeth — which makes them look like an animal to us. Animals from a strange and violent planet, their only life prerogative is to bite the other Biters to absolute pieces.

Biters.io is a fun .io game which runs very smoothly and appears to be pretty popular because of this. As we’re sure you know by now, some .io games can be a laggy fest of frustration. It’s always fun to play a game that runs this well.

Eat cookies to regain health and improve your score. As your score increases you’ll gain in size and be able to take on the bigger Biters. Using your right click will enable you to dash, but you need to keep your Biter stocked up on plenty of water. A top tip is to hover around one of the pools and feast on those that try to invade your space. That way you’ll keep your Biter’s thirst quenched!

How many cookies can you eat? How many bites will you bite?

Anomal.io

ANOTHER .IO GAME. It makes sense that most Multiplayer Animal games are .io games. They are the hottest type of game right now. Anomal.io isn’t extremely popular, but we really enjoy its simplicity. It doesn’t compare to biters.io in terms of excitement, but the combat system is more reminiscent of the most famous .io game of all: agar.io.

In fact, the game might even be simpler than agar. There is no way of splitting your piece (how can you split a cow in two?) and it is simply reliant on your personal skills. You will find yourself getting destroyed over and over again by a huge horse at the start of the game, but with a little persistence you’ll find a space for yourself in the game.

Cretur.io

Cretur.io is a free online PC .io Animal multiplayer game, perhaps one of our favorite out of the whole bunch. The graphics are great and simplistic (and pretty non-intensive for mobile browser gameplay) and the skill-leveling is addictive. Much like any other .io game ever developed, the main point is to defeat the other players.

In Cretur.io you must use your various abilities to evade, capture and devour enemy opponents. Each creature has a mass, and when your mass reaches zero, you’re eradicated. There are lots of different abilities to choose from including poison, burrowing, leaping, sprinting which all have their benefits and drawbacks.

It’s actually a fairly balanced game. The smaller creatures will generally escape the larger ones, and if you time your attack just right you can pull off some sneaky damage on the big guys.
