My Page Notes browser extension now has 10,000 weekly users on the Chrome platform! It feels like the perfect time to share more about this powerful little tool that I personally use several times a day.
Note: For a quick TL;DR you can also see the short video (~1.5 min) below that goes over some of the features, though not all.
Page Notes functions like a digital diary that’s always within reach, showing you exactly what you need. While browsing, you can take notes for individual pages, or entire website, and when you revisit those pages, your notes are right there waiting for you.
I use it for storing login hints, frequent flyer and membership numbers, research notes, and even my to-do lists (see Tags as Productivity Hack below). But everyone uses it in their own way. One user mentioned using it to take notes on house listings while researching their next home. Another user collected notes on stocks under the #stocks-research tag as they read about different companies and formed opinions.
What sets Page Notes apart from other note-taking apps is that you automatically see only the relevant notes. You could have 50, 500 or 5000 notes, it doesn’t matter, you’ll only see notes that matter in the current context. I just checked I’ve 500+ notes. I could never imagine having as many notes in Google Keep or Apple Notes — organization will be too much work.
Cloud and Web App
You can configure Page Notes to sync your notes to Google Drive, and thus keep your notes consistent across all your devices. For situations where browser extensions aren’t supported, such as on mobile devices, Page Notes provides a web app at pagenotes.app, allowing you to access your notes from anywhere.
Tags as Productivity Hack
The extension has an ‘All Notes’ page where you can access all your notes in one place. You can quickly filter them by tags or just search for what you need.
Creating tags is super easy — just add a ‘#’ in front of your words. For example, I like to add notes like “#read this awesome article” or “#todo fix this #doc” to remember things I need to do, along with their context. Besides helping you categorize, tags turn Page Notes into a handy to-do app!
Encryption and Security
You can encrypt your notes, using a passphrase that only you know. When you encrypt a note, unencrypted note or the passphrase is not stored anywhere, not even on your browser.
Also, no third party has any visibility into your notes, ever. Notes are on your browser and, if you set up sync, in your Google Drive.
Here is a video where I tried to capture main features of Page Notes.

In Conclusion
If you’re not using PageNotes, you’re missing a powerful tool that could improve your browsing experience significantly :-) As one reviewer said:
Even if you don’t think you need it, you probably do.
