1. Free navigation app

Why pay for a navigation app if you can have one for free? MapFactor Navigator is a completely free GPS navigation app currently available for Android, iOS as well as Windows Phone devices.

2. Offline navigation

Do you have a limited data connection or travel abroad and need to navigate without using the internet? With Navigator you simply download the maps once at home or in your office to your smart phone and use them later whenever you need.

“Truly excellent Really really good app. Essential. Free, accurate GPS. Download the app and when your going on holiday just download the relevant country. Boom. Fantastic. Used it in Barbados and it’s perfectly accurate and has all the POIs you could imagine.” (user review)

3. Free maps and updates

Navigator uses data from the OpenStreetMaps project, free maps created by its contributors. These maps can be downloaded without charge and are updated every month completely for free.

4. Navigator supports professional TomTom maps and offers more accurate and reliable navigation for truck and large vehicle drivers

Navigator also supports professional navigation maps from TomTom with enhanced navigation information. The maps cover more than 200 countries and are available through an in-app purchase.

The Truck version (using TomTom truck maps) is aimed for truck and large vehicle drivers. It offers route optimization for large vehicles based on vehicle height, width and weight. It avoids low bridges and narrow lanes.

Standard as well as Truck version of TomTom maps are available in all versions of Navigator — Android, iOS, WinPhone and Windows.

5. Turn-by-turn navigation

Navigator will instruct at every turn on your way. Whether a crossroad, roundabout or a motorway exit, the GPS navigation app will show you the upcoming manoeuvre, the distance and time to it.

A+ Worked great in Scottland but needed solid wifi to downld the 300mB map initially. After initial download, worked great offline. Speed warning feature really valuable. Voiced instructions are well timed and accurate for all these nutsy roundabouts. Highly recommend.” (user review)

6. Voice navigation

To make your drive safer, voice navigation will instruct you in advance of your upcoming manoeuvre. You do not need to check the screen and can instead concentrate on the road ahead.
Voice navigation is available in more than 30 languages.

“Navigator by map factor Great free navigation app. The British women’s voice is extraordinary and so pleasant. I actually wish she would say more! With the other navigation apps, I can’t stand the nagging Voice. I’d gladly donate money to keep this free. It’s good to see that there good old days are still alive, power to the people! Excellent job!” (user review)

Update 2017:

7. Live HD traffic information

Life HD traffic information was introduced in MapFactor Navigator 3.0 for Android, which was released in April 2017.
Using HD traffic Navigator calculates a route to avoid unnecessary delays on your trip, constantly monitoring for new traffic delays. If a problem arises it recalculates the route to save you time and money. This feature also works with free (OSM) maps.
HD traffic is available for 21 countries (mostly in Europe, North America, South Africa).

Have you not tried the Navigator app yet? Get it for free from Google Play Store, App Store or Windows Store.
