If you are in favour of a healthy workplace say “aye!”

If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor…..- Desmond Tutu

Companies focus on customer — employee relationship. Well the customer is King and always right so even if you are insulted, you are to smile and be polite throughout except of cos you have another job waiting for you.

Also, the relationship between managers and surbodinates is also looked into, Unwritten rules of respect for authority and so on which is normal and expected.

How many companies have looked into employee — employee relationship. It may sound unnecessary but looking at the big picture it is important. How do your employees relate to each other? Is there a boundary in their communications? Are they allowed to consciously step on each other’s toes? What level of relationship are they to maintain while in office? Can they date?

When employees respect each other and get along in the workplace,it’s amazing how productivity increases, morale increases and employees are more courteous to customers.

All these are ethical issues that may seem insignificant at the beginning until you realise that your employees really have no boundaries in the office; in speech, actions and that is unhealthy.

Bullying is also encouraged in an unregulated environment where people are talked down because of their belief, physique, opinions etc or are mistreated for various reasons. Your employees should be able to come to work knowing that there are rules guiding relationships with other staff and there are consequences for misbehaviour towards each other.

This is how values are built, this is how companies produce employees who are trusted in other firms because of their background of ethical behaviour.

  • Employees are more motivated to work in an environment where mutual respect is key (respecting the individual ).
  • Conflicts and fights are reduced as well as discouraged.
  • And boundaries are set for the employees who may not know where to draw lines in their communications.

How conscious are we in our relationship with other employees?
