Ready for (the) fall? A lesson on anger
This one’s not about fall fashion trends, nor about travelling, I’ve done that reading already and got the point: it’s beige, color blocking etc. This one’s about mental health in the time of ….. grey November.
Yes, I happen to live in a country where November seems to have an impact on most of the people around me. You may be a busy businessman, an excited freshman, a young mom or a wise grandma, the grey-ness and brutal change of weather gets to us all. And what do we do? We become grumpy, naggy and some of us (ekhm..) angry. No? Not you? Ohhkaaay. Maybe your dog then? :)
Here’s a book recommended by my other therapist friend JDK that I’ve just devoured in a day …
The Dance of Anger (by Harriet Lerner) helps you to understand what anger is an what it does. Then it helps you to deal with it.

I particularly loved the intro where she describes how (despite the big progress of feminism), an angry woman is still considered unacceptable is therefore mostly discredited at work and at home as “crazy” to chose the most publishable word.
As a note to self, I will also leave here the 3 tools and tactics that Lerner recommends to deal with anger, so that it doesn’t end up destroying your relationships.
(1) Take a breath and some distance.
(2) Learn to respect differences.
(3) Have a bottom line. (she gives such a great definition of the bottomline and a few tips about finding yours)
I’ll try to fill these bullet points with some meat next time, for now, here’s the link to the audiobook and let it help you get ready for gloomy November (or any other month really).
LOVE and beware of your anger,
M
