April 14—Dichotomy

This is the dichotomy:
no one can have
sovereignty
over another’s self —

we each have the right
to our own being, our own
small piece of identity
that is our core integrity and truth.

And yet our lives are not fully our own;
we’re connected
in ways we can only glimpse
at odd moments
when the strange angles line up
and the immensity
of the implications
begin to peer
around the edge of the horizon
like a breathtaking and irrevocable dawn.
