The deeply sad news coming earlier this week is that long-time and well-respected Austin creative community leader Julie Gomoll has committed suicide. There have been several touching tributes to Julie by her friends and colleagues, including Jackie Dana (‘Our Chief Schemer Has Left Us’), Ilene Markowitz Haddad (‘Dear Julie’), and Lani Rosales (Four Part Facebook Post). Michelle Greer has created A Fundraiser in Honor of Julie Gomoll — Link for the benefit of Julie’s beloved charity, Austin Pets Alive!

Depression and suicide are all too prevalent in the startup, creative and freelancer communities and if anything positive can be gained from this tragedy, it should be to recognize the signs and prevent it from happening to others.
