Yes. Amen, Darrin. You are right: never give up. Always keep trying. Two examples. 1) I joined the military 51 years ago this month. I was a student and I needed the money. Studied, graduated, and served. After 8 years, I transferred to the reserves. I had a succesfull career…

Not everywhere.

Not everywhere. "China currently has 243 gigawatts (GW) of coal-fired power either approved or under construction, enough to power the whole of Germany,..." This is from Reuters on Aug 29th (https://www.reuters.com/article/climate-change-china-coal/china-has-243-gw-of-new-coal-power-approved-or-under-construction-research-idUSL1N3A92FW) So, it's going to get a lot worse... It doesn't matter if we all stop peeing in the pool when, at the other end some moron is having diarrhea in it.

Neon Deion on Prime Time.

How there is a huge lesson in what Deion Sanders is doing right now. — When I heard that Deion Sanders had accepted a coaching spot, I was curious to see how he handled it. So, I was happy to watch the piece on CBS’s 60 Minutes where they interviewed him. I wasn’t disappointed. Deion is one of those larger-than-life characters who rarely come along…

A Very Powerful Novel.

The most powerful love story. Ever. — Or how a novel written in 1936 set the tone for my whole life. I’m a sucker for a love story. And by definition, indeed by its very existence, a love story — ANY love story — ends badly. Think about it. They lived happily ever after. Maybe they do. The thing is, ‘ever after’ doesn’t exist. Nowhere. Not even for the universe. …

I Had an Uncle.

It’s the result that counts, although the way there is also important. — I had an uncle. He wasn’t the most respectable fellow in the world. In fact, he died a homeless vagrant, rejected by his family (us) because of his actions. He may have been a sociopath or a psychopath, not sure which. As an ER doc, I had only two diagnoses…

We have obviously not been looking at the same facts, or studying the same events.

We have obviously not been looking at the same facts, or studying the same events. I understand this. I also understand that the most passionate and the loudest people are usually the ones who know the least. It seems a characteristic of humans that the less assured they are, the…

I'm a guy who came of age in the 60s. So, AC/DC is more of my sons' generation. When I went to Afghanistan, to run the busiest trauma center in the world, at age 56, my young docs, nurses and medics would play Thunderstruck in the resusc room whenever we awaited multiple casualties. Well, it certainly gets your adrenalin going. Ever since then, the song has been associated with those times. BTW, we set a world record for survival that still stands to this day. I guess AC/DC never thought they'd influence people in that way !!

Actually, the laws during WW II were not all that clear.

Actually, the laws during WW II were not all that clear. The question of revenge, however, was clearly and articulately stated by AFM Harris, Bomber Command's boss when he stated, about the Germans, "They have sown the wind. They shall reap the whirlwind." This, if course was in reference to…

The Suspension of Disbelief. Part 2.

How not to turn your reader off. — Warning. This article contains a spoiler. I, for one, am worried that at the rate we are going, our nation’s future workforce won’t be adequately prepared to compete globally. This in turn will impact our economic and geopolitical standing.
