Letters to my Sister in Japan — Day 93

Dear Sister,

I simply was not prepared. I was not prepared the scale, the size, the spectacle, and the decorations of this event. If you thought I sounded surprised yesterday, forget that impression, and let me tell you how much more surprised I am today.

What blew away my expectations were how varied all the stages were. Yesterday I may have mentioned that there are 16 stages for performers. What I did not mention was that every stage had a theme and a unique design. Some stages resembled underwater palaces, some stages were made to look like circus tents, and then other stages were full-on, animatronic dragons.

You know how the US Open Sandcastle competitions showcased crazy castles and sand sculptures of various characters, places, and things? Apply that same creativity to performer stages and you’ll get an idea for how varied these things can be.

Beyond the designs, there were also fireworks and laser shows and fog machines to amaze more than 100,000 people in an arena-shaped grassy hill, overlooking a natural pit.

Jess made an interesting analogy that I feel rings true: the County Fair is to Coachella as Disneyland is to this event.

Anyways, I doubt I’ll write any more about TomorrowLand, tomorrow. It’s not fair that I bore you with details while I’m having the time of my life.

Love,

Your Little Brother
