You’re talking about “saving face” or maintaining the front or reputation one has with another. This can lead to a lot of problems and it often leads to high-horse judgement. Combine that with the govt’s lack of education about the disease and you have an environment ripe for discrimination. Not to mention the lack of doctor-patient confidentiality. A few small changes could alleviate the stigma in generation, but I see little effort to address the stigma.
