Why rediscovering your origins is so important today

How much value lies in your origins? Often times, distance weakens the connections with our own origins, until they are lost among old writings and retellings.

Family is strongly tied with history and traditions, and marriage - the event that unites and creates a new family, is therefore one of the most significant moments to rediscover our origins, a pathway to go travel back in time through the lenses of the present.

Those who have Abruzzo origins, even distant, perhaps know that marriage was once an event rich with symbols and rituals, and unique to each of the various areas in the territory of Abruzzo. Some notable differences from traditional American weddings include a renovation of the bride’s gown to a bodice in red silk and a white skirt, or a black shirt embellished with buttons and distinctive jewelry, especially in Scanno. The celebrations were enlivened by typical local dishes, toasts in the local dialect, and most importantly, the pre-historic ‘Snare of Love’ dance in the province of Teramo, or the indissoluble knot as in Villalago.

Today marriage is still one of the most important moments for families, and despite being overcome by the old-time customs, it is a ceremony that can revive its origins, upholding its special, intimate and precious charm. You often try to make a ceremony unforgettable with lavish food, extravagant displays of flowers, colors, lights, and entertainment, but nothing imprints in your memory like an experience of re-discovering your roots.

Marriage can then be something more than a single day of emotions. It can become an opportunity to take a trip and unveil a territory rich with history and beautiful nature. Abruzzo is enclosed between the sea and the mountains and boasts some of the most beautiful villages of Italy with a coast lined with trabocchi, parks, and natural lakes. A ceremony in ancient villas, wineries, or new facilities set in harmony with spectacular landscapes, discovering the authentic flavors of traditional cooking is heavily tied with Abruzzo.

Discovering for the first time the streets, houses, and cities from where your family left is not just a trip back in time, but an opportunity to see how essentially nothing has changed. A way to make a life-time experience unique and sealed time after time.
