Marquette Alumni Looking for TBT Bid

The Basketball Tournament is heading into its third year of play, and this summer a team of Marquette alumni is looking to join the action.

The Basketball Tournament, also known as TBT, is an open applicant, single elimination basketball tournament for a $2 million prize. The prize money has increased since both the tourney’s first two years.

I attended TBT’s Midwest Regional and Super 17 in Chicago last summer and noticed several of the teams competing were alumni teams from various universities. Some alumni teams include Notre Dame, Syracuse, Indiana and Air Force. Noticing this, I had wished Marquette would have had a team, considering they have several alumni playing professionally overseas or in the NBA D-League.

This year my wish may come true. Daniel Fitzgerald, a former Marquette basketball player and overseas professional, is forming the team called the Golden Eagles Alumni. To become eligible for TBT play, the team needs 200+ fan votes and at least 7 players on the roster. The top 12 teams in each region will get automatic bids, and then 4 other teams in each region will receive at large bids.

As of right now, the Golden Eagles Alumni have 398 votes and 3 roster players: Jerel McNeal, Trent Lockett, and Dwight Burke. The team needs as many votes as possible in order to secure one of the top 12 bids for the Midwest. If you’re a Marquette alum, fan, or lover of the game, please vote!!
