Letters To a Dead Me: Look How Far You’ve Come
Hey kiddo,
Believe it it or not you’re in the stage where you’re applying to graduate school. That’s something, ain’t it? Just a few years ago you were at a place ready to leave the world. I mean, even now there are some moments but you know you won’t act on it like you intended to a few years back. You’ve built a strong sense of community and developed your resilience. I’m really proud of you. I really love you. And so many others do too.
You were granted the opportunity to attend UC Davis’ 2nd annual Envision program, a conference that has a goal of diversifying graduate students. What’s even more astounding is that you were the youngest person in the room. You found that out because someone asked you to drink with them but told them you’re not 21 yet. It’s all right, not like you like alcohol all that much anyways. I know that you’re going to feel a sense of impostorism for the next few years of your life because you tend to be the youngest in the room. But a great mentor told me: “Youth only means less time spent on Earth.” This redefined my conception of being young. Simply put, take pride in being the kiddo amongst adults. You’ve achieved feats in a shorter time because of your capability, grit, and the community holding you up.
Oh, and you’re actually kinda ready to get back into the dating scene. Wild, ain’t it? Open up your heart a bit more — you’d be surprised at who you let in.
Marco.
