Pivot: To change direction.

Being able to make a decision on whether to pivot or keep going is a useful skill when building a product, brand, etc.

We must be careful that we don’t pivot too fast just because we didn’t get the great results we were hoping for in a very short amount of time.

Just as well, we must be brave enough to recognize that we might need to change direction. This can be hard because we have to admit two things:

  • We made a mistake, out initial direction isn’t panning out well. In all honesty making mistakes isn’t that big of a deal.
  • We put a considerable amount of effort into something that might have been a dead end. Although this depends on how drastically we change direction.

I think that it’s important to be completely aware of what we’re doing. Are we pivoting or are we persevering? We shouldn’t just be going through the motions.

This is, of course, easier — or possible really — if we have a clear goal.

Anyway, this is inspired on things going on in my life. What are your thoughts on this subject? Let me know!
